So glad I stumbled on to this - Been struggling with a mid-project IKEA kitchen through COVID when they stopped all shipments and I needed more drawer/cabinet items! A nightmare. Now this is making me re-think the design and add some cool features (lighting) that makes the delays worth it!! Thanks a ton!

I have been there :) But I am so glad we did the IKEA cabinets myself. I may not be a Pro, but with a lot of care and taking my time I can produce a kitchen far better than a Pro in a rush to get the job done. Good Luck :)

Thank you so much for the idea of the board behind the cabinets to level them out. I had the same problem and used shims, but now what? They've been in place for three years and I could never figure out how to take them out and keep the cabinet level. Did you take the cabinet off the wall and screw the boards in place before adding the cabinet?

Hi... Yes I did take down the cabinets. I added the board behind them to create enough space to add a Hue light strip but you could do the same thing if the wall was not level and you needed to bring the top further off the wall. Basically you would attach the board to the wall then attach the IKEA rail overtop of the board. The rail that you are hanging the cabinets to needs to anchored into the wall studs to support the weight of the cabinets and their contents. Hope that helps :)

i have a question...i have an electrical wire that I'm afraid will be pinched at the base of the wall cabinet with frost have, etc...i should have accommodated when i put up the cabinets a few years ago. do you think i could either tilt the bottom of the cabinets or from the wall(3 are attached together) or remove the bottom of the middle cabinet(where the wire is located) and then cut a notch in the bottom of the cabinet for the wire to sit more free?

When hanging the rails did you not have to shim out the rails to match the part of the wall that bowed out the most? My wall is uneven and I wasn’t sure if I need to find the part of my wall that sticks out the most and make that my baseline or just screw the rail in only put shims in where there are gaps.

Your rail needs to be straight when installed. If you have a bowed wall you’ll need to shim your rail so that it is level and straight. Your intuition is right.

Did you anchor the lower back of the cabinet to your bottom spacer wood, or are they just hanging free from the top?
@postbeam8200

Good question. No only the top is attached to the wall using the rail and the brackets mounted to the cabinet. So yes the cabinets are just hanging free from the top. I did use a little dab of wood glue to hold the bottom spacer wood in place but that is just to keep it from falling out if the cabinet gets bumped or jiggled.

Hi, great vid. How do you like the window behind the cooktop. Do you still feel you need the vent hood? Thanks
@postbeam8200

Yeah it is kinda weird having a window there but it is nice. Per building code we needed the hood so it had to be installed. But honestly opening the fence doors and that window clears more smoke than the 700fpm fan in the hood. But it looks kinda cool also.

@@postbeam8200 sweet! Thanks for that info.i have three big windows that open by my cooktop so I actually might forgo the range hood based on your comments

Do you know that there are masking panels (same as the door panels) available in IKEA, just to put them on the cabinets sides (as well as bottom) and hide the gaps/not perfect finish of the inside cabinets? That would works better than any pieces of trim and doors you have presented at the and of the video. Good luck BTW!

I did know there are masking panels. Thank you for the reminder :) I wanted the panel to have that shaker look so that's why I went with the door option. Thanks!

What is your measurement from the ceiling in order to get them close to the ceiling?
@postbeam8200

Well I just measured it and it looks like 4" or 10cm from the top of the cabinet to the ceiling. Hope that helps!

@@postbeam8200 We are trying to get the cabinets as snug to the ceiling as possible. So really I'm looking for the distance between the RAILS and the ceiling. I don't understand how this information is not published anywhere.

The range hood is far too high to be effective AND why install a range hood over a window?? Also instead of a door for the side, why to use cover panels that are the same colour, that IKEA produce?

You didn't utilise a corner cabinet? You've got some dead-space in the corner :o
@postbeam8200

There is a pipe in the wall causing that corner to have an angle so no way a standard cabinet would fit. Honesty, corner cabinets are over rated. Blind Corner cabinets are just a junk area for stale pasta and old boxes of Jello get lost and die of loneliness. I would rather have useful cabinet layout than more space that is useless. Buy less stuff. Be happy.

Dunno if you mentioned in your video, but which cabinet sizes did you use? We are installing our cabinets now, and I’m not sure if I like how massive that corner piece is/(from ikea)
