In this video, we are going to make Srilanka's famous dry fish made from Thiriyap paarai fish. This is one of the tastiest karuvadu in the entire world. The speciallity in this dry fish is, it will be directly dried in sun and we don't add too much salt in it. We just need to dip the fish in salt water and sundried for 5 - 7 days depending on the size of the fish. This is the first time ever in youtube history, you could see the making of dry fish at home and in city. The process is just simple. But you have to safeguard the fish from flies, cat and birds. That is the biggest struggle we faced. Flies will enter even if there is a small space between the net. We used a basket with net and that protect the karuvadu from all predators. It is very easy to make karuvadu. But in apartments or in foreign countries, its difficult to make as it smells too much for 3 days. So if you are living in apartments, you can not easily make it. As our house is a single house, we could manage the smell. We bought a fish of 5.5 kg size, but finally after drying up, the size reduced to 2 kg including head piece.
This thiriyaa paarai karuvadu is best for newly delivered moms for milk secretion. It is one of the best breast milk secretion food. Normally, people eat karuvadu after delivering baby for enough milk supply to feed baby. This thiriyapaarai karuvaadu is very expensive. 1kg karuvadu would cost around Rs. 3000. While making at home, we spent around Rs. 550 to make 1.5 Kg Karuvadu without bone.
