Was so wonderful to see Orlando Poe (designer of the Poe Lock) make an appearance at 44:57 Man of few words but most legends are.

There was no explanation of when and how it got the "Soo" name. I really enjoyed the history lesson. Thank you

Sorry for that omission. "Soo" is the phonetic spelling of "Sault" which in old French translates as rapids. The early French explorers named the area in honor of St. Mary - Sault de Sainte Marie, which was shortened and informally called simply Soo.

Thanks for recording this! I really enjoyed watching it before my trip to the Soo Locks. Question: I love how you did this video. What software did you use to set it up like this?

In time of these historical photos people including children didn't require safety rails everywhere to avoid senseless injury. IMO the children of the past had more acutely developed common sense and far greater discipline than current children whose parents all too often ascribe to the aggressive and constant you're smart and special school of parenting. As a result modern children require the world to be padded to prevent them from doing something stupid as they've never been chastised for steadfastly not learning to look before they leap.

Americans are very spoiled. Kids back then had to work.
