JustPlanes, thank you so much for your amazing videos. I am fascinated with your rare looks inside the cockpit of airlines around the world. Cubana has always been such an interesting airline to me but there are few opportunities to see it, let alone see what it's like from the flightdeck of one of their now retired Soviet-era aircraft. Fascinating how they use Soviet aircraft in their fleet. Great video!

Those airplanes had many (too many) design errors, staring with faulty engines, thru low quality of manufacture, ending on lack of producer's support (many faults were hidden by soviet government/producer). All Polish types of IL62 was locally modified after crash in 1980 and 1987 and probably it saved hundreds of lives, but producer never tried to use those knowledge... They always said that "everything is under control". But it wasn't. If they would listen to Polish engineers in 1980 maybe they will save the second aircraft i 1987 (and many more in other countries)... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOT_Polish_Airlines_Flight_5055 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOT_Polish_Airlines_Flight_7

That’s normal on soviet aircraft, that arrow indicator indicate that you are lower or higher than glide path. Since at that moment pilot turn to manual mode or they turn off the auto throttle ( I am not very familiar with il62 logarithm, but I always turns off the auto throttle at that moment when I fly the tu154), so sometime the plane will not on the glide path due to the human error
@garyzhang5099

I am former Polish Airline employee. I have worked on IL-62M. In Poland, two IL-62 crashed (due to manufacturing errors,) taking 87 lives (in 1980 ) than 183 lives (in 1987). Russian producer denied its fault. Not three years passed (1990) after 2nd crash, third plane suffered same problems (explosive disintegration of engine in flight) - landed miraculously thanks to pure luck. Once plane landed in one piece, it constituted undeniable proof Russian manufacturer could not deny, anymore. What really blows my mind however, in April of 2008, another Il-62 (Cubana) suffered near disaster for the very same reasons (it ended with miraculous successful emergency landing again)!!! Search YT for "IL-62 EN SANTO DOMINGO" to find video of aftermath of the emergency landing (of Cubana). Search YT for "Flight 5055" (8 parts) to find detailed technical account (with computer animation) of 1987 disaster. Search YT for "Black Serial - flight 5055" for account of Russian denial (Black serial-2.3 - tragedy of flight 5055 (English caption) ). If you look into aviation databases IL-62 will have more or less comparable safety record to other planes of its era. Whats however, those databases will not show (contrary to what many Putin propaganda brainwashed Russians aviation forums enthusiast will try to put you into believe), USSR till this day, did not admitted all of its disasters. For this very reasons, those databases does not provide fair or clear picture of safety records of soviet planes. Lying about disasters (denying its existence) in USSR was standard, especially if it happened inside USSR territory and there were no foreigners among victims. Even USSR collapsed, and in times of Gorbachev and Yeltsin, they did admitted to at least some lies they held for 70+ years, complete reversal came in times of Putin. My guess is while some faults cost nothing to admit, denial of other lies in vital interest of Russia. They still make and export planes and letting the world know about embarrassing past simply lays not in their interest. Polish language only: account of 1980 disaster (search YT for: "26 Sekund Tragedia Kopernika" and "Czarny serial - Katastrofa Kopernika"), account of 1990 incident (search YT for "Podzwonne dla IŁ-a 62M").
