"I think, therefore you are." Fun Fact: Hayden Christensen's feature film debut. He's the Paper Boy met by Trent on the road. Practical Effect Fact: The effect of Julie Carmen spinning her head around was done by having a contortionist stunt-double wear an up-side down prosthetic mask of Carmen's face. Since the stunt double couldn't see, the filmmaker had to guide her on where to go by sound. Monstrous Madness Fact: The "Wall Of Monsters" at the end was not several monsters being controlled individually. Instead, it was a combination of men in suits and animatronics attached to a vehicle-like wheelbase and had to be pushed along with a crank. During the filming of this scene, the Wall accidentally ran over Greg Nicotero's foot and he had to be taken to a nearby hospital.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Mainly because of its Lovecraftian storyline and characters. Jurgen Prochnow kills it with his role as Sutter Cane, the Stephen King-like writer who writes things that come to into existence. He kind of brings a Hannibal Lecter-like charisma to the role that all villains should have. Edit: Also, all the creepy stuff happening around Maine comment Nick says is ALMOST true, it would be Maine if this was a Stephen King movie, but since it's about a fictional writer that does Lovecraftian horror, and the fact that Linda Styles said that Cane was better than King as a reference, they decided to use New Hampshire, instead. It's not Maine, but it's right next to it. Really close. I like what they did there.

Isn’t it amazing that the same screenwriter who wrote Freddy’s Dead, easily the worst Elm Street film, also wrote this film and it’s easily one of Carpenter’s best after The Thing?
@hablibubli8648
2 жыл бұрын
I just watched this film a month or two ago for the first time! Good timing I guess :p I really like John Carpenter but I have only seen a few of his movies so I wanted to check out more. The Thing do be my favourite tho :p This movie was very nice. To me the strongest parts are the beginning and ending thirds. Carpenter really does atmosphere like no other. Really sucks you in with the mystery and Sam Neil plays a great cynic which is also a very Carpenter thing. Also what really stands out to me in this film are the set pieces. Really memorable moments like the axe murdered scene, when they ride to Hobb's End for the first time and the ending are great. There's a lot to love about this move and it gives me vibes that I can't really get from anywhere or atleast from anyone else than Carpenter. The middle section or when they arrive to Hobb's End is where the movies drags a little bit for me. It doesn't feel like the movie has clear direction there and then the lady just kinda disappears from the movie as she is drawn into Sutter Kane's influence. Still I love the Innkeeper and all the memorable monster designs. Also the movie does pickup more when Sam Neil and Kane are more at odds with one another and the ending really ties it all together and ends on a strong note. Couple of questions at the end: Have you seen Carpenters non-horror work like Big Trouble in Little China? Saw it as a kid and remember loving it. Plus a young Kurt Russel is always nice to see. Also have you seen Possession from 1981 starring a young Sam Neil? I... don't know what I think of the film. It's very strange and has bizarre performances from strange and almost funny to really, really harrowing and extreme. So story is weird and abstract and I dunno.... weird stuff :d I think it's hailed as a cult classic and it feels like more of an experience than a tightly structured movie. Just came to mind while watching this video :) Thanks for the fun reaction, stay safe and have fun!

Hey Nick! Again, had to comment much later after viewing and liking! Great reaction, and you point it out best by saying it several times, ''What is real?'' Granted, I haven't been your subscriber for very long, but I have seen you being disgusted or scared by certain films, however this one looked like it freaked you out! In a good way, haha! Likewise, I actually watched _In The Mouth of Madness_ only very recently, but enjoyed it very much, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the upload. I haven't seen some of other works by Carpenter, but I will definitely put _The Fog_ on the top of my list, and _The Prince of Darkness_ too so I can check your reaction. I would have recommended _Event Horizon_ , but it wasn't surprising to me that you have already seen it. So instead, if you haven't seen it, I highly, _highly_ recommend you check out _Dead Calm_ , with both Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman! (What a combo!) Prince of Darkness is my favorite of the 3, with its quantum physics/metaphysics approach to horror. It's such a cool concept. In The Mouth Of Madness has a great idea behind it and is suitably chilling, I just prefer the mental exercise of PoD and the special effects of The Thing. While I don't enjoy the writings of Lovecraft, I do enjoy his concepts and much of the work that has sprung up from his writing circles. There was a fun little black & white adaptation of Call of Cthulhu from 2005, but it's getting harder to track down these days.
