As the nomenclature surrounding jump technique becomes more standardized it is important that we touch on ALL areas of the jump. This includes the 'block'.
The Block: In short this is the final contact an athlete makes before take-off. The block serves two parts primarily. 1) Further amortization (power transference) and 2) A breaking mechanism that helps to change an athletes trajectory from horizontal (approach) into vertical (jump).
This drill helps to create INTENT and a deliberate step that is placed down by the athlete NOT an after thought. I would recommend implementing BOTH the bodyweight and banded versions of this into a training routine both DURING a workout and on off days where your'e working more technical components.
There are a variety of set/rep schemes, but in the early stages as you're building efficiency of movement, I would keep the reps low and the sets higher. ie. 6x5 (this will help an athlete to elicit more efficient movements).
Be sure to watch the other videos on the channel that go over other aspects of the full jump and its various components.
