As a symbol, the Dove is usually known for love and peace. Doves crying is actually a symbol that means things are changing , a prophecy that whatever you’re going through is coming to an end. “When Doves Cry” is just a metaphor of what happens when a beautiful relationship goes sour and the changes that have to happen.

This was a MASSIVE hit as was the entire Purple Rain era of Prince. Prince also joined Elvis Presley and the Beatles in being the only artists to have the number-one album, single and film in the US all at the same time. He changed the music industry and pop culture. Check out Let's Go Crazy next. It's funk/rock Prince. There is an unedited version of When Doves Cry which is killer. You should check it out too

Prince owned two doves for years , Majesty and Divinity. When he says this is what it sounds like when doves cry is really how they sounded crying. Prince was able to " speak " and communicate through his instruments.

Here's another fun fact. This song is entirely Prince's creation. After the soundtrack for Purple Rain was completed He was asked by the director of the movie Purple Rain to add another song to the track. Prince wrote produced When Doves Cry in 2 days. In 1984 it shot straight to #1 and stayed in the Hot Billboard charts for 28 weeks. He also had the #1 album and film all out at the same time as the single When Doves Cry..

Eddie Murphy named his show "Delirious" as a reference from the eponymous Prince song in the "1999" album. And you're right about Prince being a ladies' man, he even wrote a song named "Pussy control".

Joeybada$$ did a live cover of this called “When Thugz cry” he remixed it and it’s amazing. I hope you can react. Also the Purple Rain movie was semi autobiographical but Prince did have a very dark childhood. His step father was abusive, he was even homeless for a few days at 12. He had a complex relationship with his parents too. This song is very heavy. Love your reaction 🤗

Prince’s parents divorced when he was 10. His dad kicked him out of the house at 12 when he caught Prince in bed with a girl. Prince bounced around between relatives and friends’ homes until he finally stayed with Andre Cymone’s family.

In the movie purple Rain, his parents were always either verbally or physically and he was trying to write songs for his band (The Revolution) and the band wasn't playing the music he'd written for them- especially Purple Rain that the girls wrote. Basically The Kid (prince's name in the movie) was worn out by his parents, girlfriend, the band, and The Time (the opposing band who was trying to get The Revolution out of the club they were playing at). The Kid was also getting ready to be kicked out the club because of the lies The Time went telling him (Billy). That's the entire premise of "When Doves Cry".

The hottest bath ever 🤣You're so funny! Yes, his parents got divorced. The span of his music is as wide as to cover funk, rock (Rocking guitar...), jazz and soul as well as pop, so it may take long to deep dive into his world. But once you enter his music world, there is no limit -- we can find all different versions of songs and performances, evolving over decades. Performance-wise, I recommend Purple Rain (Super Bowl halftime, 1985 AMA, The Brit Awards (2006) or Syracuse (1985)). For the 80s vibes, Raspberry Beret, Take Me With U, U Got the Look, 1999 or Cream. Songs like Kiss and Sign O the Times were ahead of time and also hit No 1.

Great reaction! BTW Eddie Murphy took that line from Prince not the other way around. Facts. I remember at the beginning of his Delirious tour he would play Prince’s song Delirious from his 1999 album. I think there might be a video of it online. He did I think a Barbra walters interview where he’s driving up in car jamming to the song too.

Doves would cry while watching people purposely hurt the people they love. It would make them weep with sadness and tragedy. Doves are a symbol of peace and love. If the doves were physically real and witnesses to your life and the love you possess, and you and the person you love fight and hurt each other on purpose, ~~> those doves would cry while they watched.

Actually, Prince was a 1 woman man. His friends said he was so attentive to his woman it was a little embarrassing. Prince said we shouldn't be embarrassed or ashamed of sex. He said it's a spiritual experience between 2 people. This is another scene from his movie Purple Rain. He's fighting for the woman he loves in the movie. And his family is messed up. Check out You got the look. I want to be your lover.

Another great reaction from BCP! This time around most of your questions were answered by others so I'll comment something fun. Prince is said to have completely recorded more than 5000+ songs and there are more half completed demoes and whatnot. The released songs are in the ball park of 1000-1500 (if you count his NPG tracks) and alot of their titles have general everyday words or phrases as their namesake. In the beginning you mentioned liking postivity well "Positivity" is an underrated song from an underrated album (once you see the cover you can tell why it got removed from stores or put on the backselves) and the Delirious Comedy Tour you mentioned was actually inspired by "Delirious" from the same album as "Little Red Corvette". From now on I'll comment any songs that you say the title of unknowingly.
