I've found your channel after looking for songs to learn. I am half Mohawk, half German/French, and my native mother has passed away. With her loss, I lost my connection to my Iroquois culture, as my skin is white, and unfortunately there is a lot of prejudice and fear towards me when I try to learn my OWN ways. I've seen my cousins come at you for cultural appropriation, please forgive them. I received a drum this Christmas, and I drum and sing along to a few of your songs and cry and heal, please know you are helping so many by preserving and educating on Hodenesaunee ways. My grandfather survived the Boarding Schools, which really turned him off from his own culture- and we became urbanized after the Indian Relocation act of 1950s, so my mother was only Mohawk in race. Although I am mixed, and I recognize my privilege, I wish well to everyone across the the world who follows Peacemaker. Thank you for helping me feel my ancestors, and my mother who's now partying with them. niawenkowa

Niawen ko:wa for your comment Guan. I appreciate your words as they come from the heart. There are many native people on Turtle Island who share your story. As you say, there are lots of prejudice towards the non-natives who take interest in the indigenous pathways and surely much of this suspect is justified - colonization, boarding schools, acculturation, misappropriation, New Age crap, overflowing all authenticity in spirituality. I myself come from a people who have lost much from their old, pre-christian traditions. What is left are just tiny fragments, which have reached us in distorted way or just out of their original context and sense, that you can't know exactly what was the meaning and purpose of it. This is one of the reasons people from Europe get so inspired by the native american pathways. The Haudenosanee people's history, culture and way of life has been an inspiration for me for twenty years. I am sure that the Creator is a good gardener and by placing seeds of affection for a particular place and people inside men and women on the other side of the world such as Bulgaria, he has meant something. And whenever some native tries to put me off with his words, I do tell him that am a friend of his people and that in all epochs and times friendship is appreciated. Nobody can prevent you from being inspired for something, for having love and respect for something. He can only guide you through this, show you some limits, but nothing will be achieved with pointing fingers and accusations. I try to learn from some of the Iroquois people I stroke friendships with through the years and I learn even more from the old books, stories and narratives. It is a rich and powerful realm there. And now my son in Bulgarian will also know the story of the Sky woman and the Twins, about the interconnection of life in this world. It will be nice to keep in touch with you.
