This is really tricky strumming. They improvise a lot and change strumming patterns. It's a big tricky learn and you would never know it hearing it. That's how talented they are. Damn, Emily in addition to being a mega talented musician and songwriter was HOT back in the day. I cant remember the year, but it was something like 28-29 years ago, I was at the NOLA jazz fest, I was walking on Royal Street carrying my son who was little. There was this group of girls playing guitars and singing harmonies in a glass storefront doorway. I'm pretty sure it was an antique furniture store. There were a dozen or so people who stopped and listened. THEY SOUNDED GREAT! After they finished, we all clapped and I said "you guys sound just like the Indigo Girls." They got up to leave and Amy took her index finger and brushed my cheek and said, "that's cuz we are, hon, your son looks just like you." That's my brush with greatness.

I saw them a few years ago down in a little theatre in Redwood City, CA and it was truly one of the best concerts I have been to. I was in awe of their pure perfect vocal harmonies that brought back memories of the Everly Brothers. The lyrical content of their songs, however, much richer than anything that Don and Phil ever did. I was amazed by the number of guitars in the rack that was clearly visible off stage. After each song, their guitar technician will quickly come out, take away the two guitars they just used and hand them two new ones. Joni Mitchell is the only other artist I have seen who brings so many guitars with her. In her case, each has a specific tuning for each individual song.

Excellent. I have heard this song too many times to count. But it is great to see it performed live at its time of release. I especially like the first 2 or 3 of their records, when it was more based on acoustic duo and harmonies. As far as Letterman goes, it would have been nice if he knew which one was which and had their last names! But you can't knock him for not asking meaningful questions. All he really had time for was to ask them about their hometown, and to mention they were on tour with REM and VFs.
