Nice mini-project - things made of brass always make me happy, no matter how handcramp-inducing they might be. I especially like your jig ideas because I always tend to just put in the work to do things manually throughout because building a jig for it takes just as long, but your ideas seem simple and efficient. Also: The finger smell must be horrible after fiddling with these for too long. You think there is some varnish that would stay on after hours of fiddling around and protect your fingers from the brass smell?

I've been using 3d printed plastic versions of these for years now, easily one of my favorite desk toys. I used my first one so much that the hinges eventually broke. I'm trying to find a brass model of the Temple of Benares game. Aside from what it sounds like, it's actually a kid's toy made up of a flat wooden block with three wooden spindles coming up from it (left center right), and ten brass rings on the left spindle, the rings ranging from the largest diameter ring on the bottom of the left spindle, up to the smallest diameter at the top. The size of the wooden base is dependant on the diameters of the bottom brass rings, and the two spaces between the three bottom rings, as well as their diameters. The size of the game is dependant on the variables mentioned. Also, the base can be wood, but if you really want to be fancy it, too, can be brass with three brass spindles. The aim is to move all the brass rings from the left spindle over to the right spindle. It sounds easy until you realize the two rules: 1. You can only move one brass ring at a time. 2. You can only place a smaller ring on top of a larger ring. That is, you CAN'T place a larger ring on top of a smaller ring. There's a mathematical formula involved. I honestly don't know it, though I did work it out graphically one year. I still have the drawing... somewhere.
