What kind of brakes work with Micronew brifters? I’m not sure of the pull ratio.

Hi Phil thanks for the question and please take a moment to subscribe! They work with any standard road calipers, I've used all different types be it shimano brand, tektro or Amazon off-brands! All work without issue!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I’ve installed them on my bike and they feel loose… the tension isn’t there like you would expect. I’m not sure if it’s a bad set of levers or if it’s the disc calipers I have on my bike. I find I have to fully squeeze the levers and only then I slow to a stop. Any ideas? Also, you have a new subscriber!

Ah I should have also specified "side pull" road calipers! These are rim brake type brakes I was referencing. I have setup similar disc brakes with road shifters, though I was using the TRP HY/RD style brakes. You need to make sure you have road bike specific disc calipers which use a shorter pull the road shifters are designed for. Second is you need to make sure the calipers are perfectly centered then adjust cable tension at the caliper to be as tight as possible without rubbing the caliper. I imagine there is an incompatibility between brakes and shifters though. I have a Patreon if you need step by step type help, you can check it out here: www.patreon.com/d2_wrenchworks_diy

@@D2WrenchWorksDIY thanks a lot for your answer! I do have one of them connected to a TRP HY/RD brake and it seems alright. I think I might switch to a set of decent rim brakes. Thanks again for your help and I’ll be sure to check out your patreon!

Yeah I'd definitely center them and then pull the cable tighter where it bolts to the HY/RD caliper. You can look inside the caliper and see the actual distance the pads are to your rotors when you do so. This will show you how effective your throw is based on cable tension. They are good brakes that are strong when setup properly and will easily lockup and skid a 700x38c on pavement and I'm a heavy rider.

Thanks for posting this! Great job! The brakes have been awful on this bike ever since I got it. I replaced the front cable yesterday while watching this video and I cannot believe how well they work. Thanks!

Is it possible to adjust something in the Shifter for the gears? My back derailleur works fantastic with these, but the front derailleur wont work properly. I just get to the second chainring with two clicks, but not the third

Hi Kevin! Thanks for the question and please take a moment to subscribe, I appreciate the support! I would make sure you bought 3 speed compatible shifters because they do sell 2 speed shifters. Unfortunately there is no shifter adjustment and I have set many of these up on triple cranks without any issue. I would check your cable tension and shifter compatibility, then make sure your front derailleur and crank are compatible (this can easily happen in custom builds with mixed groupsets).

Can you explain how many times I must click for lower or higher gear ? And how about the smaller or higher chains?
@D2WrenchWorksDIY

Hi thanks for the comment! Please take a moment to like & subscribe! Yes I do explain that in the video, there is no "set number of presses" as it would be impossible for me to know what gear your shifters would possibly be in. You press the small button that drops to a lower gear until inside it stops moving. This means you are now in the lowest gear and for example if you are in the highest gear the mechanism to attach the shift cable is going to be hidden. When you are in the lowest gear the cable mechanism will be most exposed and easiest to feed a new cable in as I show you in the video.

Awesome to hear it helped, please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! These shifters are really great, I have purchased about a dozen sets over the past few years and made some great budget videos you can find in my playlists too! It can be a little annoying doing the brake cable but once you learn the trick it's a breeze!

Best I instructional video I found for Microshift. Using a needle nose to remove the “barrel” for the brakes was a game changer. Thank you!!

Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Yes Micronew is the same stuff as Microshift. Microshift does have some nicer models in their lineup but their basic stuff, microshift is the same.
