That is an aftermarket thermal paste. I used the ARCTIC MX-4 because it's better than the one that comes on the Intel stock coolers. It's job is to ease the transfer of the heat from the processor to the base of the cooler, by filling the gaps otherwise would be between the two, since the CPU and the cooler don't merge perfectly when you install them. So it makes the cooling process really efficient.

Hey great build, I am looking for a similar build (my first build) that is able to stream and edit my video gameplay such as gta v and others. Will this build do a good job recording without getting frame drops? and is this a good build to edit, or would you recommend upgrading to a i5? Great video btw.
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your appreciation! Unfortunately, if you want to stream and edit also, I would highly recommend getting an i7 6700. It's just the plain truth. Streaming on an i3 6100 without frame-drops, or serious editing, without waiting a significantly longer period of time, is an illusion. The rest of the components will be perfectly fine, you won't need an after-market cooler either, but for what you intend to do, the i7 6700 is a must. Spend more now and you won't regret it.

Dr Cat An i3 6100 doesn't bottleneck a GTX 1060. You must be really ignorant to think that. There are numerous of sites where that combo is recommended, for 1080p and 1440p ultra gaming. if you want to listen to what people who don't own the components, never tested them for themselves and have also a low intellectual comprehension, so be it. I went for the GTX 1070 because I have a 4K Samsung monitor. the GTX 1060 didn't deliver enough fps in that resolution. I am very glad with what I got for the money and this combo will give more fps in all the games that a similar priced combo of an i5 6500 or 6600k with only a GTX 1060.

Hi there! Just stumbled upon your video. I really enjoyed it; Great camera quality, fast forwarded at points that needed to be, and you were detailed. My only suggestion would be to add some music. May I recommend KZitem channel NoCopyrightSounds? Keep up the work, you earned another sub! Edit: I actually do like the original sound of all the wrappers and things clinking around. Maybe a soft music overlay, while you can still here the original sound?

What is all the wiping that you're doing on the top of the CPU and the fan? Are you applying something, or just trying to wipe it clean? Edit: I realized you applied after market paste...were you wiping off the stock paste that came on it?
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wiped the stock paste and replaced it with the ARCTIC MX-4 to get temps lower with 3-4 degrees Celsius. Even so it wasn't enough for 4k gaming. The CPU reached 72 C and thermal-throttle after 15 min of gaming. Not to mention it was loud as hell. i had to keep it on Turbo Mode all the time I was playing. I would only use this stock cpu for an office system, only for web browsing. Now I am using the ARCTIC Freezer 13 and it's incredibly performant and quiet. Get any aftermarket cooler with a 92mm fan and you won't regret it.

Hey. Thank you for the heads up. Indeed, that was my monitor at the time of filmid this build. Short after I purchased the Samsung U28E590D 28" 4K 1ms. You can see it in the following link: amzn.to/2gpbz3K By accesing it and buying it from my suggestion it'll give me a small comision without paying anything extra. It is simply superb and the best for it's price.

I mean what's up with the temperatures..Is only the stock fan enough for medium high settings for hours? Are you using extra fans? I also read in the description that you are using a cooler(for the cpu i guess) but in the video i only see the stock cooler(or not??). Sorry i am new to pc building! Great video!
@Meroving1an

If you plan to use the MSI GTX 1070 gaming X you will need to buy a middle tower, because this case is not suitable for that tall GPU. I had to bend the case to make the GPU fit in, and only after I got a PSU with flat cables I was able to close the side panel of the case. I like Zalman cases, but for this you need a bigger one. For other GPUs that are smaller, like not so tall in height they will fit just fine. Don't use the stock cooler; it's dirt really. Get an aftermarket one, no matter how cheap, it'll be way better than the intel one. I got my CPU thermal throttle at the beginning with the intel cooler. i would use it only for a web browsing PC. otherwise for gaming, no. I am using only the back fan of the case.

FEEDBACK: 1.use iso-propyl alchohol to remove the paste. its a pretty good organic solvent for the price. 2. Dont add music to the next one unless its lofi hip hop, it overpowers the actual content. 3. i like the annotations of the product as you placed it in, nice touch. 4. get an rx480, with updated drivers it outperforms the 1060 and has freesync. 5. im not sure if the mobo screw need to be tightened so much IIRC, they only need to be snug.

Look very carefully on the motherboards manual (you can see the scheme at 12:05 for the position of the RESET connector) and on the motherboard itself. The red cable will be the (+) positive one, so in my case I placed the red cable to the other side, not the Ground (-) market pin, but the HWRST# market on the manual scheme. I had to turn it around myself as well, because, in the way I connected it the first time, it wouldn't work.
@EnzoAuditore
7 жыл бұрын
Actually you're right, the manual does it all, and if i can do all the rest, this will be a piece of cake, and i believe with time we can just follow the motherboard, with no need for the manual. Also, if you get it wrong you can keep it trying, it doesn't damage anything when you stop to think about it. Thank you for the video and attention!

Hi! Thats a very useful vid, thank you for that. I am just about to build a new pc. I already bought the same motherboard you have, an ASUS H110M-K, with 1x8Gb DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury Black. I definetly want to buy a GTX 1070 to that config, but im not sure about 2 CPUs. Is a Core i5 6400 enough to get full performance from VGA, or i should buy the 6600 one? Is it worth to pay more? If its only 2-3FPS extra, i rather stick with 6400. And is a 500W PSU alright for this system?
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
If you buy the i5 6400 you will have an incredible performance. Don't bother with the 6600, it's not worth it. Try to look up the i5 6402P CPU. It is relatively unknown or not so popular but it usually has a lower price than a 6400 and 100MHz more (2.8-3.4GHz)than the 6400 (2.7-3.3). For the GTX 1070 i recommend a Thermaltake SMART SE 630W. It is really cheap and very well build. The 500W for a GTX 1070 would have to be some gold rated PSU, Otherwise you'd have some issues with the power delivery if you buy a modest one. Buy the Thermaltake or the Corsair New Series VS650 or CX600. From the 2 the Thermaltake is better. One more thing. make sure to buy an aftermarket cooler, the cheapest one from ARCTIC with a 92mm will be way better than the stock Intel.

KLozey You can go with the Zalman ZM-T4 (supports up to 300 mm gpu's) only if you will buy the ASUS GTX. If you decide to go with an MSI you'll need a middle tower, because that videocard is very high and the power connectors won't allow you to close the side panel correctly. Zalman has very low prices an very good cases.

I used the stock cooler for a while, but it had very bad performance. the temps were up to 72 Celsius and it was very noisy in 4K gaming. If you will use the pC for web browsing only then you can keep it, but if you want to game on it I would definitely go for any aftermarket cooler with a 92 mm or 20mm fan. Hi there! Get the cheapest 8GB DDR4 2133MHz stick as you saw me using. I found that from Crucial. Where you are it can be a different brand. Crucial is usually the best budget one. My advise would be to get it and use it in single channel for a while, so you can upgrade to 16GB later. Trust me, you will do it in the future. For gaming everything will work awesome even with a single channel 8GB.

If you do not have the CPU yet, I would strongly recommend the parts I used in my newest build: Intel Pentium G4560+Gigabyte B250M-D3H+8GB of Crucial DDR4 2133MHz or 2400MHz RAM. Here is the Video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKep1KhsoGuiepg The motherboard is simply superb. It has 6 USB ports on the back: 4 are 3.0 and the other 2 are 2.0. With the money saved on the CPU you will be able to afford a B250 Mobo for sure. You also have the Amazon links for all the parts in the description of the video.

Hello. Indeed in the build I used the stock cooler. After a few months I had to replace it, because it was very noisy in 4K gaming and my CPU reached 72 Celsius after 15 minutes. Also there were many cases of fps drops due to thermal throttling. I placed in the description the cooler I use now, because it is far superior and very quiet. I would recommend the stock cooler if it was a PC used only for web browsing. I grounded myself by touching the metal parts of the pc case and the door handle, every time before I touched a component you saw me installing.

Hello. I just wanted to get better temps with the one I used, like 4-5 degrees Celsius lower. But for 4K ultra gaming the stock cooler wasn't enough not even with the ARCTIC thermal paste I used. The i3 6100 reached 72 Celsius after 15 minutes of gaming. That's why i replaced it with an ARCTIC Freezer 13. The temps dropped to max 63 after hours of gaming and the noise level was way way better. i would recommend you to get the cheapest ARCTIC cooler you can find, like the Alpine 11 Plus. It's whisper quiet and very good. if you use the pc just for web browsing, you can get away with the Intel stock cooler. For gaming it's unacceptable.

Hi Mero. Do I need to apply Thermal Paste even with the intel heatsink? Because I have heard that you need to apply thermal paste only with external CPU coolers.
@Meroving1an
7 жыл бұрын
If the cooler that you are using has already thermal paste on it, you do not need to apply it on the cpu as well. I did that because I wiped off the cooler's thermal paste and replaced it with the ARCTC MX-4, in hope of better temps. But for 4K ultra gaming it wasn't enough. SO I had to replace the cooler with all. Now it's very nice, cool and quiet with an ARCTIC Freezer 13. I would recommend getting the cheapest ARCTIC cooler you can find, a 92 mm fan on it. it'll be way better than the dirt Intel puts in their cpu boxes.

Hello! I chose that mobo, because it was the cheapest H110M-K I could find. I am planing to ad a GTX 1060, right after the release. For an i3 6100 build, it's no point getting an expensive mobo, if you do not overclock. Not to mention ASUS boards are very reliable. I had a Gigabyte before, a B85M chipset; it was very good, but more expensive and I never used all it's features and expansion slots. For what I need, this ASUS one is perfect and supports ddr4 ram as well.

Is it possible to use the other 4 pin connector to power the CPU, or will the one you put in was the only CPU power connector that worked? Lastly, can you rotate any of those 4 pin connectors and still get it in the motherboard's socket?
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use the other 4 pin connector as well to power the CPU, because the wire scheme is the same: 2 yellow on top, 2 black on bottom. But you cannot rotate those 4 pins in any direction; they have to be connected in such a way the plastic notch, on the cable connector from the PSU, fits the socket on the motherboard.

Hello. I installed the GTX 1060 from Gigabyte you can see here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/y31m2HqagJqLm5w unfortunatelly it came with a defect, as all gigabyte GTX 1000 series are bad from design. The fan was making a grinding noise, so I couldn't stand it. I returned it and bought an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X, you can see here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1YOQrp2rgahmmqg What can I say: I am playing WoW in 4K with all untra settings (10), and recommended Effect settings and I'm having a blast. I get between 55-65 fps in the intensive Boss fights in 25 man Legion raids and up to 100 fps in the trash zones. For me the i3 6100 is the best gaming processor for the money. i had one guy telling me he gets sometimes lower fps with the same GPU but with an i5 6600k oc'd. The i3 6100 will not bottleneck on any way the GTX 1060. It will actually give you an incredible gaming experience in 1080p and 1440p, as yu can see from my other tests done with the GTX 1060 from Gigabyte. If you want to play in 4K you'll need a GTX 1070. If you're talking about the Audio Orange LED stripe on the motherboard, i keep that off all the time. But yeah, I guess it remains on as long as the PSU is On and connected to the power cord. if everything runs normal you shouldn't worry, not even it smelled funny :), who know what it was. Probably it's the normal smell for a new electronic component.

Mero I talk about the led light that can been seen on this video at the end. Its the same thing but I noticed that today after the funny smell so I got scared. So it isn't an alarm at all right? The weird thing is that on hwmonitor the mainboard temp is constantly up to 120C but on the BIOS it's 20C. LOL?
@Meroving1an
7 жыл бұрын
Did you mount correctly the motherboard on the case using the correct stand offs? And did you place them correctly for this small factory motherboard, by looking at the case notes for mobo's positioning? Maybe the weird smell is due to the fact the back of the mobo touches some metal part, maybe a stand off screw you forgot or placed in the wrong position and can short circuit the mobo. WHat you are telling me reminds me of what a friend did, about 15 years ago. He bought new parts and placed the mobo just as it was inside the case, with the standoffs short-circuiting it. There was some funny smell and it didn't boot up at all. I said to him: "It smells funny!" He replied to me: "It better not smell funny to you, motherfucker, because I paid a shitload of money for this!" We immediately took it out and went to the PC store again, and he got the right stand-offs and positioned them correctly and all then rand ok. I don't get that temperature error at all. The AI Suite 3 and BIOS work fine at that aspect.

Mero I didn't build the pc, the tech guy did. I noticed a screw on the top right of the mobo that wasnt mounted well so I fixed this today. There are 2 holes on the bottom of the mobo that are empty and i can't find the screws to mount them as well. The guy that build my pc didn't check any manual at all.. he finished his job in about 8 minutes.. I don't smell anything right now but the the temp of the mobo is still at 119C on hwmonitor. On bios on the other hand its normal 20C. I read somewhere that hwmonitor does this sometimes.. But the orange blinking led is normal right?
@Meroving1an
7 жыл бұрын
The orange led will stay on as long as you have it set like that in the AI Suite 3, so yeah, it's normal. If you want it to be turned off when the pc is off, you'll have to set it off even when the PC is on; it's the only way.

Hello, nice pc build you got there! i'd like to ask some questions if you don't mind.. i'm currently using this pc for 7 years already, with these specs: Motherboard : Gigabyte H555-S2 (Socket LGA 1156) Processor : I3 530 @2.93GHz Ram : 4GB VGA : Geforce 8400 GS 2GB PSU : 380V And currently thinking to upgrade into: VGA : Asus GeForce GTX 950 DirectCU II OC 2GB DDR5 STRIX PSU : Corsair VS Series 450W - 80 Plus RAM : Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Black PC12800 16GB (2X8GB) Will my motherboard compatible with those parts? the VGA and RAM slots.. If they're not, will they bottleneck each other..? or do you have some recommendation to upgrade my PSU VGA and RAM, currently didn't think to upgrade the mobo and processor.. Thanks in advance!
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words. Regarding your potential build, every component you've mentioned is compatible with your motherboard, no problem at all. The video-card is compatible, so is the DDR3 ram. The power supply is more that enough for an i3 + gtx950. Still, if I were you, I would wait just a little bit more, to see the launch of the GTX1050. It is true that the GTX950 can be found at lower prices right now, but compared to what performance and price the GTX1050 will have, there will be no contest. You already waited 7 years for this; a few months more isn't a tragedy. Keep in mind the GTX1060 launches in a few days and I'm sure theGTX1050 won't be far now. You'll get much more performance for the same amount of money. Regarding the RAM, Corsair is a very good brand; I used to have 8GB of that. Still, if you can find a cheaper RAM, without a futuristic heat-sink, because you don't actually need it, save some money and get that. The 450W Corsair PSU will be very good. Regarding the bottleneck, I don't think so; sure, if you'd update your CPU to a newer i3, you would see an increase in performance, like 10% more with each generation of CPU's, but that doesn't mean your current one will bottleneck. It will simply perform at it's best. :) My recommendation is this: get only 1 more stick of 4 GB DDR3 RAM, to suit your needs for now, and wait for the GTX1050. Save your money and, when you can, upgrade your rig, by buying the cheapest motherboard that supports Intel CPU's and DDR4 ram (socket 1151), get the i3 6100 and a single 8GB DDR4 stick. You won't regret it. Just gotta have patience. I would not invest a considerable amount of money in stuff that is now outdated, like a GTX950 or 16GB of DDR3.
@Meroving1an

Also they've announced a 3GB version of the GTX1060 for 149 US Dollars, Compare that with ~ 130 bucks, for the cheapest GTX 950 (2GB) now, and you'll see it's worth waiting a few more weeks.

wow, thanks for such recommendations! i'm considering to change my mobo to H110M-D Version and I3-6100 3.7GHz as well, both of this cost about $205 in my country (IDR -> US$) My current RAM DDR3 2x2GB is local brand. But i do agree to get a single 8GB DDR4 instead of 2x8GB DDR3. But, before that i need to upgrade my mobo of course. About the VGA, i don't think i will get GTX1050 sooner or later, because the Asus GeForce GTX 950 DirectCU II OC 2GB DDR5 STRIX priced about 200$ in my country, due to tax and others.. maybe i'll just wait for the GTX1050 so the GTX 950 price will decrease (again). lol

Im not really interested in gaming, but i would really love to get a new pc. This i3 build without gpu is what i was looking for. Is this, without an ssd, a good pc? I will be buying a gtx 1050 maybe in a year. I will be using this hypotetical pc for future work. Please tell me mlre about it if you know anything.

The i3 6100 is a very good cpu for any PC, as long as you do not want to render large video files. Personally I would always use an SSD in my PC builds, because it literally refreshes even an old system. The HDD will hold you back, especially if you want to work on your pc and will have to load certain programs. The Samsung 750 EVO 250 GB is prices incredibly well. Try to look up for it in your area and you will not regret buying it. Also the GTX 1050 will be very good for the money; in one year for now it'll cost even less.

If you are using the stock cooler, it comes with thermal paste applied on the cooler, as he showed when wiping it off. Other coolers may or may not come with it pre-applied or separate.

the CPU comes with the thermal paste pre-applied on the stock cooler. But I would recommend buying th cheapest 92 mm cooler from ARCTIC. It's way better and quieter than the dirt Intel puts in their cpu boxes today.

I have no 4k equipment, and I only process 1080p/720p video. I typically convert 1080p/720p, at 25/30/50fps, videos into jpeg files for analysis. I then produce super slow motion 1080p videos from the jpeg sequences. I am typing this on my old second generation i5 computer. This has the same top clock speed, but is running 32-bit Windows 7. The Windows 10 upgrade was buggy, so I've cleaned that off the old system. This 2011 Win7 system supports legacy software & hardware, and cannot be changed to a clean install of Windows 10. Given that the i3 6100 is a sixth generation processor, running 64 bit Windows 10, with a basic 8 gigabytes of 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM, it should have caught up with the i5, which runs with a basic 4 gigabytes of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.

True indeed. Only at this point, if someone would build a new PC I would recommend the Pentium G4620 with an H210 motherboard and support for the 2400MHz RAM. It's in my opinion the i3 6100 killer. And it even cost less than the i3.
@clemstevenson
7 жыл бұрын
I didn't know about the Pentium G4620, when I looked for a motherboard/processor/RAM combo on Amazon.UK. This was the basic, and cheapest, offer for a low-end i3 gamer from that specific retailer, which I considered reasonable for my personal use. As I don't make a job out of PC construction, and thus have no real experience, I had to go on instinct. Not all parts were purchased on Amazon UK. For instance, I went out shopping for the case, which I got a lot cheaper than those advertised on Amazon. I recycled the San-Disk SSD from my old laptop for drive C, and use a Western Digital HDD for storage. I have been using a similar SSD/HDD system on the old i5 for the past three years, and have been avoiding the use of drive C for storage for a lot longer than that. Just to make things easier, should shit happen (which it does), I've cloned both drive Cs.

:) It's no problem whatsoever; the difference is very small between the two builds. I wish you to use your system well for years to come. I am on the same platform and I'm having a blast. At the moment I am using just one SSD, a Samsung 850 EVO 256 GB version. I will have to get another one in the future, because space runs out fast. I don't like the HDD's anymore.

Thank you. If you have the money, the i5 6400 is better, but not in the same proportion as the extra price. Get whatever mini tower that supports mATX motherboards you like. Personally I enjoy the Zalman ones. Regrading the monitor, I will soon switch to a 28 inch 4k Samsung monitor. It's this one: www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/uhd/samsung-uhd-28-monitor-with-high-glossy-black-finish-lu28e590ds-za/ I managed to get it on a incredible price. actually, the pre-installed thermal paste from intel is fine. why did you remove it and replace it with aftermarket paste?
@Meroving1an
7 жыл бұрын
Because it was measured that the MX-4 gives better temps with 3-4 degrees Celsius. But even so, it wasn't enough. in 4K ultra gaming the temps reached 72 C and the CPU was thermal throttling a lot, thing shown in the stutters and fps drops while gaming. I also had blue screens 2 times because of it. After installing the ARCTIC Freezer 13, in this video you can see here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2KKClqWvrnleoYo the temps went down to a max of 63 and the noise level dropped significantly. I couldn't sand the stock cooler it was very loud in gaming. I recommend it only of a web browsing machine. Otherwise any aftermarket cooler will be way better. For a more budget friendly cooler the ARCTIC Alpine 11 Plus is perfect.

Why did you clean of original thermal paste? Should I do it next time too?
@Meroving1an
8 жыл бұрын
I did it because the one I applied is better, lasts longer and gives a few degrees C lower on the temps, but it's not mandatory. It is really easy to do, that's all. In most cases, the stock thermal paste used in CPU's and GPU's is a cheap one and tends to loose it's thermal conductor properties during time, while the AC MX-4 has 8 years warranty and there for will keep everything cooler for longer. It's up to you.
@RorychattInc
8 жыл бұрын
you can live without it. on my Intel core i5 6500, while stressing its graphics and CPU I got max of 51 degree Celsius. it's recommended to change thermopaste after like 1 year, better if after 6 months. or if your temperatures start rising above like 65 I would already change it, it's relatively cheap and easy to do.

I have a similar setup, except my mb is a 110m-a, and smaller GPU, which I am considering upgrading. However, my current card runs sorta flush with the front panel pins. Does your GPU fit? The f-panel pins are just slightly different between the two mbs but according to the physical specs of the GPU I have and a similarly sized GPU that you have, it shouldn't be able to fit.
@Meroving1an

Any GPU should fit in without any problem, as long as your case is big enough. The M version of the H110 mobos can be indeed really crowded or tight in some areas, but you should have no problems in getting the front panel connections on and the GPU installed last. It will just take a bit more time than on a regulat ATX motherboard.

In that case you will be better with the Ryzen platform, but it will cost you more. You cannot expect to edit videos for a living or on a daily basis on a 65 bucks CPU and be happy with it. My recommendation is to get the cheapest Ryzen 5. It has 4 cores and 8 threads and it'll be very good in the photo and video editing stuff. You will be able to game with it also. I'm only recommending this because you said you to this stuff, otherwise, purely for gamin, the G4560 is unbeatable for the price.
