One of my friends had this game for his Amiga 1200 back in the mid 1990's. I borrowed it once from my friend and gave a first try on my Amiga 500. Although, it is as challenging as GAUNTLET, it was cool to play for awhile 😹😸😺👍🕹️. I believe, i still have this game for my Commodore 64 in a compilation called HIT-PAK (tape and disk) 😹😺👍🕹️.

This was a great game that I really should have played more then I did. It came into my collection fairly shortly before I got my Amiga 500 I think so I was more into 'Garrison' on the Amiga for my Gauntlet-esque fix, but ITEN was a blast from all I remember of it. I felt it compared well to the original "Castle Wolfenstein" with less stealth and far more shooting action. Good choice!
@CheekyCommodoreGamer

Wow yeah 'Garrison' I do remember well, although always thought it was a much slower game than the original Gauntlet... yet was a nice addition with the 'dwarf' character. Eagles Nest is a great yet 'clunkier' version of a Gauntlet-esque style 😇🕹️👌

I seem to recall I found this game on a C90 full of games given to me by a friend with no idea of the contents. This one stands out, I don't think I played it that much but I definitely recall the music. I have only just realised it was written by Andrew Chaillis who also wrote Frogger 64 and Crazy Kong for Interceptor Micros, the first C64 games I ever purchased. Crazy Kong was appalling, it looked like it was written in BASIC!
@CheekyCommodoreGamer

Yeah the Interceptor lable games weren't the best thats for sure - to sat that Interceptor founder 'Richard Jones' started Llamasoft together with Jeff Minter at the age of 16! If they hadn't have parted ways just imagine what Llamasoft games would have looked like! Mind you, Interceptors 'Pandora' Label did manage to produce this banger of a game 😇🕹️👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer We should keep a few things in mind: I was either 7 or 8 at the time, and - as such - the nuances of truly excelling at "Into the Eagle's Nest" certainly eluded me back then. This would be more my fault than the game's, and yet - even so - they did factor into my initial reactions. Furthermore - and this must especially be known - the comparison was additionally unfair for reasons of hardware: whereas I discovered today's game on a microcomputer, I first discovered Gauntlet on an NES. To this day the songs from that version are indelibly burned into my psyche, and I could easily still hum them by heart. To be certain: the Commodore 64 could be an absolute auditory beast when used correctly, but Into the Eagle's nest was a mostly silent affair. As such - now with preamble aside - I guess I'm saying I actually liked Gauntlet more back then, but I still think this here is a great game too!

You need to cover a zero known C64 game by Activision called "Portal". It is a fantastic sci-fi story of an astronaut who arrives back to an empty Earth, he finds a single working computer, and a story AI called "Homer", between them, they use various sections to find out what happened, like Science, Society, etc.!

Gauntlet was pure addictive wasn't it! Like yourself - I'd play it for literally hours on end with my brother.... what would usually happen though was 'play fatigue' which would end up in him probably wanting to kill me, as when playing 2 players you'd need to follow each other or the screens wouldn't scroll haha - good memories 😇🕹️👌

Game was kinda ... meh ... From technical standpoint very well done, graphics, music and sounds. But gameplay was simply not there. Maybe because of those generic German soldiers, with rudimentary AI . Overall, your biggest opponent was you, if you waste ammo, shoot explosive chest or are simply impatient. Later, when I played Wolfenstein 3D on PC, I got the same vibe. Technological marvel, but soulless and bland.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer

Thats the subjective nature of the beast with games - did you prefer Gauntlet? I guess, like the aforementioned, the enemies made a 'beeline' towards the players almost in a single file formation... I suppose they took that element and tried to create the arcade style vibe for this game. As you say though, deaths could be very harsh especially when exploding those crates 😇🕹️👌
