What a worthy journey! Long time cold climate 7.3 operator suggestion: at least on my 97 the glow plugs didn't actually cycle off when the wait to start light goes off. They actually continue to run for about 2 minutes. You can tell when the voltage comes back up after the truck has started (try it at night and notice the lights get brighter - that's when the plugs stop glowing and pulling power). In cold starting conditions I always found the best chance at getting it going was to turn the key on and wait until that voltage jumps back up - the plugs will have glowed as much as they can AND you'll be back to full battery power.
@TruckHouseLife
3 жыл бұрын
Dude, I tried that today and it worked! I watched the voltage go back up and was definitely a little less strain on it, thanks so much! I'll mention that pointer in a video in the near future and spread the knowledge:)

So close yet so far Timmy, I think that is for most of us. We have dreams and aspirations to get out to do things but never accomplish our dreams. This video to me is one of your best, a reminder for us. Me personally, my wife is a brain tumor survivor and we have come to realize tomorrow is not promised. Therefore we try to get out and do many things as possible. At 58 I feel like there is so much I haven’t done. I feel like my head has been in the sand since I never heard of this story. Remarkable what it takes to wake up the mind and spirit. After watching this, I asked my wife if there was one thing, place you wanted to see knowing your time was on earth was shortened ....what would it be? For both both of us, no real answer because there is just so much to do we agreed on. Keep up the good work young man !

I read the book. I thought it was both amazing and an indictment of Christopher McCandless as a narcissistic young man who cared only about himself. I haven't watched the movie so I don't know how close it comes to portraying what Mr. Krakauer wrote. The most amazing aspect of this story to me is that McCandless was an avid naturalist, and according to the book had with him a very large and scholarly plantopedic tome of some sort that he used as a guide of how to survive in the wilderness. And if I recall correctly, Krakauer explains that in this tome there were two similarly spelled plant seeds mentioned--one a nutritious edible and the other a deadly poison. The sinister thing about the poisonous plant was that it had the effect of starvation--the more you ate the more hungry you'd get until you starved to death, and basically, McCandless kept eating the wrong plant seeds until he starved. Fascinating as hell. Into the Wild--a great book to read for sure. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Please note I wrote this before I watched, so if it's in the video, my apologies. Just to follow up, as I'm now ten minutes into the vid, if I remember K's book correctly, McCandless also left behind a young wife and child whom he either abandoned or divorced; I forget which. But he is no hero, as Krakauer points out. Mc Candless also took a pet dog with him who was killed in one of the communes he stayed at before leaving for Alaska--run over by a truck in which McCandless was a passenger. I think McC kept a diary that Mr. K quoted, or some such thing to that effect. My memory is Joe Biden-like. Sorry for that. Seeing that bus at 12:03 really freaked me out. Into the Wild is one of the few books I've read in my 80 years that has haunted me to some degree. When I was a young man of 50-something I dreamed of being like Ride the World Doug (think that's his name on Adv Rider) and mc'ing up to Alaska to Dawson's Creek. Fortunately, cooler head prevailed. But seeing that bus stoked me. Your video is a real historic service and I salute you respectfully.

Download the Gaia GPS app on your phone and record a track as you're snowmobiling. Then you'll have a mapped route back to the truck. Probably want an external battery to keep the phone charged as well.

Great topic! Love Krakauer! You should read Chris McCandless's sister's book. Sad story about friend Jason. On another note: what drone do you have? Thanks Timmy!

I saw that movie many years ago, & now that your showing us where he passed well it seems extremely remote 😳. For not being man of the land really "this area" & this remote was a really bad call sadly. Glad you found the trail back & you didn't become another statistic there as well. Your more of a mountain man though but passing over rivers there is always a gamle. I watched that show "life below zero" & they say the ice should be 7 inches thick to pass over? Do you have chains on your tires or just snow tires? You might need a solar powered satellite phone if you continue being risky. Okey I'm watching your reruns so hope your new home build is going well :) Stay Safe 🙏

Wait till you see the one I'm just finishing up now... stranded 70 miles out in the wilderness, chased by a pack of wolves (long story), looking for a missing sled dog for 2 days and 2 nights, and my snowmachine engine seized/blew lol.
