I love maths, but since the end of year 9 and start of year 10, for me I have just seemed to forget everything. I just feel hopeless with it now. I wish I was better at maths like I used to be because it is going to mess up my dreams of the future.

I've never understood why there are so many names for absolute value/magnitude/norm/modulus. The last one is especially strange to me because the modulo operator and modular arithmetic exist, so why give an unrelated (or at least, not simply related) idea that already has 3 other perfectly fine names this name as well?

Eddie... can you please do some Australian Math Comp questions. I am happy to send some problems to you which I could never do myself.

Modulus argument instead of magnitude angle hurts me deep inside, not least because modulus will always make me think %

It's pi - pi/6 (180°-30°), which will have the same sine but opposite cosine.

What does the ACTS quadrant mean ?
@neuvilpanindra2581
3 жыл бұрын
It refers to a mnemonic which is often used for remembering which trigonometric function is positive on which quadrant of the plaane. This mnemonic assigns the (+x, +y) quadrant (Quadrant I) as A, then rotates clockwise for the subsequent letters. A stands for All, meaning all trig. functions are positive in that quadrant (Quadrant I) C stands for Cos, meaning only cos is positive in that quadrant (Quadrant IV) T stands for Tan, meaning only tan is positive in that quadrant (Quadrant III) S stands for Sin, meaning only sin is positive in that quadrant (Quadrant II)

I have the same question. S and T might be Second and Third but that leaves A and C unexplained. Btw, do you name the quadrants in clockwise order in Korea? (since you name them ACTS)

@@pedroteran5885 I named the quadrants like that without thinking about the proper order actually ! Clockwise is good :)
