It's so funny how in some of these comments ppl have the nerve to ask or question what or how the son of the man who taught the man "Bruce Lee" who brought "Wing Chun" to America in the 1st place now they learn "Wing Chun" & think they mastered the shit that Yip Man or his Son's been doing way before some of these disrespectful clown was even born lol smh

why do you introduce Yip Man over Bruce Lee? I don't think bringing Wing Chun to America is a higher merit than developing it, as did Yip Man

When training, you start from the left side first (and make an effort to train that side more), the idea being that most people are right handed and its your left that has to deal with their right, usually, so, if you are right handed you should be trying to improve your weaker side. If you are left handed, just do everything the other way around. When it comes to the actual deployment of wing chun, left and right don’t matter, you do what is appropriate.

Practise the IRAS without any hand/arm-movements. Just stand and observe your hip (You must SIT on the adductors), lay attention on relaxed knee- and foot-joints, concern yourself with knee-pressure to the inside and do not cramp at all! Only the lower abdomen-muscles should be tensed - nothing else.

I think there is a misunderstanding of my message. I was referring to the video itself, not the demonstration of Mr Ip Chun. When I referred to the right and left sides wrong, it could perhaps be understood by making an analogy of seeing a mirror image. The mirror image of the Chinese writing in the background serves as clear evidence. This is why it appeared in the video that Mr Ip Chun started with the right hand first with his first punch, but in fact, he was starting with his left hand.

In fact he doesn't have the right and left sides wrong. In Hong Kong a lot of them simply don't count the first turn as a proper turn and so turn three times after that. I won't comment on other schools, and the structure of my movements isn't 100% the same as Ip Chun but this demonstration is true to the logic of the form.

I'm training in wing-chun and have been for about a year now and I'm having trouble strengthening my root. Balance on my heal side of my feet has been an issue with me since childhood do any of you have any suggestions as to how I can expedite the process other then turn auxiliaries and the one leg exorcise?
@IdDuncan

left side, because in general it was the weak side. And starting your form on the left side train your body balance. I don't know why people put negative vote on your question, it was a good question (sorry for my bad english, it was not my natural language)

+boxer61974 With all due respect your comment shows an ignorance about the Ip family history. Sifu Ip Chun did not learn his fathers kung fu until he was quite old. Sifu Ip Man was constantly changing and adapting his teachings throughout his life. He even adapted his wing chun for individual students training with him at the same time. THIS IS WHY SIFU IP MAN AND FOSHAN WING CHUN IS SO PROFOUND. There are multiple views but what is right is what works. Sifu Ip Man knew the same thing wouldn't work for everyone though so he adapted it to the individual and made all of them valid by sticking to the core principals. Being so adaptable, "like water"(sorry), is what enabled it to spread across the world as probably the most prolific single form of Wushu today.

there is a saying about learning forms from an advanced master regarding age.its that they are at such an advanced level. like tai chi's large frame forms vs those of small frame. it is apparent that master chun is doing his forms with a small circle intention,because his wing chun is so advanced. younger students (not age,but in experience). Therefore should be performing movements with a larger motions,to express integrated power fully. definitely, no leaning backwards as in so many of master leung tings forms.

as you speak of master leung ting... why does master chung turn both feet simultaneously after 0.40? In my opinion you have much more stability if you turn one foot after the other, as master leung ting does.

Please note that this video has the right and left sides wrong. For those who can read Chinese characters, you can see it very clearly. With all respect to Mr Ip Chun, there are much better demonstration of Chum Kiu on the web. While I am not necessarily a fan of Mr Leung Ting, please do watch it and make a comparison yourself (sorry I am not allow to show an URL here). But I am sure if do a search, you can find Leung Ting's demonstration, or that by Wong Shun Leung etc.

+Dhiru Parmar he wasn't wrong, he changed it so it will more suitable for modern time, changes make it more flexible, if you live in hongkong or learning wingchun from a sifu who is also a disciple of Yip Man, you will see that although all of them learn from Yip Man, each Sifu have different way of teaching Wingchun
