What drew me to Astrophotography. I have always been fascinated by astronomy. With a background in nature and having worked as a wedding photographer, a close friend of mine had been urging me for a while to try astrophotography. Finally, in late 2022, I took his advice and I must say, it has been an incredibly fun experience so far.

I got into Astrophotography for the women and the money, then realized there was none of either but it was fun so I kept doing it. Hopefully Feb. new moon will be better than Jan. so I can get out and do some imaging. Love the Iris nice work Bill.

Long story short. I am in my 70's and have mobility issues leaving me housebound. To keep my mind active I jumped into the rabbit hole with both feet and discovered hidden interest in astromony.

Great image Bill! I have the same scope and my first go at the Iris nebula turned out looking like a turd in space. Looking forward to seeing the side by side with luminance, and more. Clear skies man.

What got me into astrophotography is astronomy. I've always been fascinated with space and last year I bought buy my first scope ever, a 8" Newtonian. After using it for a while, I realized I liked to take photos and share with people. I started with photos of the moon and planets using a phone mount but quickly wanted more and that's how I discovered the world of AP. I'm still a beginner but my setup is more or less complete, for now. I have a 72mm refractor, a mount and a dedicated astro camera and a few targets under my belt. I plan at some point to have another rig with more reach, maybe EdgeHD 8 or something similar.

Thanks for sharing! Yes much like myself I started with a refractor but longed for a bit more reach and went with an EdgeHD 8. 👍

I'm retired and travel full-time in a motorhome. I had already been full timing for 5 years and one night last April in Missouri I told myself I should get a telescope. Last June I purchased a C8 and AVX mount. I didn't start astrophotography until last October. I'm still learning a lot and have ups and downs with results but I'm getting there. I'm using NINA with my ASI071MC Pro, Starizona F7.1 focal reducer, Celestron OAG with ASI174mm. I'm staring out imaging galaxies. I don't post any images yet, starting to learn processing with Siril.

Best Bill Somewhere in the 80's I had just started a family I was fascinated by the starry sky and I bought my first telescope, a Celestron 8" on a Vixen mount, even with a hand controller and database, but you are young and it was not a beginner telescope, you also want other things and money was pretty much the problem, so I got rid of it, now I actually regret it a bit From now in 2019 I got the jitters again and astro photography was also very accessible and affordable, which was almost impossible to do in the 80s and do with Covid19 outbreak, this was about the only thing I could do from home.

Thank for sharing Frank. Much like myself with the pandemic I thought I could do it from home until I realized my yard had a very limited field of view. So I bought a campervan, hit the road where I could social distance. Hope all is well in Belgium. 👍

initially i thought all i wanted to do was visual. I spent a couple of years in the backyard thoroughly enjoying my C9.25. The trouble was I wanted to share what I was seeing. This led me down the path of trying to photograph what i was seeing in the eyepiece. As I'm sure you all know this was not a productive path and led me to astrophotography proper. several years later my one visual scope has grown into a collection of a william optics GT71 (first astrophotography scope), Esprit 120mm ED, Celestron EdgeHD 11" (galaxy season impulse buy), Redcat 51 and I got a super sweet deal on an EdgeHD 14" for my planetary needs. Mounts went from Celestron CGEM to ZWO AM5 to Paramount MyT. Not to mention a good collection of dedicated astrocameras, filters, Moonlite nitecrawlers and a hopped up PC to run PixInsight. Like it says in my Astrobin "i reached 50 years old and needed something to spend money on as fast as possible"

Wow, great story. Thank you for sharing. 👍 Lately I've been thinking about how can I capture the money side of astrophotoraphy. You would be an interesting astrophotographer to interview, if you were up for it, to help tell the money side story. If nohing else can you reply back with your Astrobin link? - Thanks, Bill
