this album is great.. Blaze just could not pull off the older material live and did not have half the personality as bruce on stage.. i think Smith leaving maiden had a bigger impact on their sound than Bruce leaving.

Never understood the hate for Blaze, the X-Factor was a killer album. I don't recall too many people losing their shit over Bruce singing Paul's songs. Paul's two Maiden albums are classically raw NWOBHM. Blaze's two Maiden albums reflect the changing landscape of Heavy Metal in the 90s. it's unfair to compare the three vocalists when their styles and ranges are all different. They each reflect a different time in the band's career and Heavy Metal as a whole.

Blaze was a great singer. I really liked him, and I really, really enjoyed the two live concerts I saw with him and Maiden. On this album I do think his voice was weak. It sounded strained, like he was forced to go too high. By V XI however he sounded really good. For my money V XI is the most underrated Maiden album. Anyway, I am glad Bruce came back, but I am not at all sad that Blaze played while he did. He was a great guy imo.

Love this song. They should have included it on the album, or saved it for Virtual XI. The X Factor had plenty of slow, brooding songs, this would have helped keep the energy up a little. Virtual XI was too short (for a late-90s Maiden album) and didn't have too many awesome songs on it. Both albums could have really benefited from a track like this, IMO.

I'm tired of people comparing these singers. I think most tend to underrate Blaze because they already have a preconception of what Iron Maiden should sound like. To me, X Factor is one of the best Maiden albums, and I prefer these songs performed by Blaze's darker voice rather than Bruce's. In contrast, I liked more the classic songs done by Bruce. I wish that people would try to listen to these songs more objectively; leaving preconceptions aside and just let themselves get into the music.

@carlos17slb The problem is that Blaze is a Baritone. Unless Maiden was to tune down - anything that Bruce Dickinson or Paul Di'Anno sang were just a bit out of his range, and night after night of straining to reach those notes would keep him from fully recovering for weeks at a time. I've studied voice for quite a while, and what they really needed to do was give him 6 months with a top vocal instructor like Jaime Vendera (LaBrie) or Al Koehn (Midnight) to increase his range.

The problewm is that most people expected a Bruce part 2. Blaze is alot different and I think that was what Maiden liked about him. The X Factor is a great album although there are a few parts where it seemed Blaze couldve tried a little harder but all in all, I enjoyed Maiden's Blaze years.

@apacolypseday I'm kind f the same - I love them all - and each has their own thing happening. People always bitch about Blaze, but one of my favorite Maiden songs of all time is "Sign Of The Cross". That song simply kicks ass - and I've been a Maiden fan since Killers was released. I saw them live with Quiet Riot opening for $8 around 1984, maybe 1983? One of the best shows ever.

Yea I agree with everyone asking why this was cut. Most of X Factor was much worse than this. I think it's because the songwriting and production on this song was more like Fear of the Dark stylistically than whatever they were trying to do on X Factor with the muddled sound and 20-minute instrumental snoozefests.
