Hulk gets really nerfed in the Mcu compared to the comics in the comics he is literally the physically strongest (notice I didn’t say most powerful) in marvel comics, his normal feats (ones were he isn’t at his max or amped) include Catching and supporting a collapsing 150 billion ton mountain range using barely any leverage. (Marvel Heroes Secret Wars #4) Tearing through a bunker designed to resist the explosion of a multi-kilo-ton weapon. (Incredible Hulk #177) Matching the Super-Adaptoid, who had acquired strength and durability of over a hundred heroes like Iron Man and the Vision. (Incredible Hulk #469) Closing the door of a nuclear core that the combined efforts of Thor and the Thing couldn't budge. (Iron Man Vol 2 #6) Redirected Gladiator's beams back to his eyes, instantly knocking him out. The blasts were said to be hotter than the sun. (Incredible Hulk Annual 1997) Matching two Avengers teams during a prolonged period of time even though the Hulk was gradually weaker due to a physical separation from Banner (Incredible Hulk #321-322) Unleashing intense gamma energy shock waves from his body, Hulk almost destroyed the entire East Coast with a single footstep, while also threatening to destroy the entire planet... and even then he was revealed to be greatly holding back! (World War Hulk #5) Destroying the Crypto Man after its physical strength became superior to that of even Thor (Incredible Hulk #205) Overpowering Thor on several occasions (Hulk: Let the Battle Begin #1, Incredible Hulk #440, Mighty Thor #385, Avengers Assemble #4) Pushing two spheres of matter and antimatter apart (Marvel Team up Annual Two #2) Pulling and holding the tectonic plates of a planet together, a planet that's mass and gravity far exceed that of Earth (Incredible Hulk #99) overpowering sufficient force to change the orbit (Tales of astonish #89) Destroying a planet and the surrounding planets/moons in the Dark Dimension, threatening the entire dimensional/universal realm (The Incredible Hulks #634-635) Destroying an asteroid that's twice the size of Earth in a single blow (Marvel Comics Presents #52) Applying force to the space-time structure itself to prevent the Defenders from being absorbed into a fissure (Defenders #3) Smashing and crushing Adamantium with his bare hands (Incredible Hulk #228; Marvel Team-up Annual #2) Overpowering and shattering Onslaught's armor, whose power and armor were equal to those of a Celestial (Onslaught: Marvel Universe #1) Sending concussive energy through countless dimensions after clashing with Ironclad (Incredible hulk #305) Destroying Nightmare's Realm with his sheer power alone (The Incredible Hulk #299) Crushing the enchanted uru hammer of Nul: Breaker of Worlds with his bare hands when The Serpent/Cul and his avatars known as The Worthy were at the height of their power (Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula #3)

That was hilarious! :D But the real answer is - a) It's a type of public official in the Chinese Empire of any of nine superior grades b) Mandarin Oranges (which is what Mary was thinking about) are ultimately from Portuguese mandarin; perhaps from the color of a mandarin's robes. (Which were orange or yellow colored. c) The Mandarin is an original Iron Man villain. But he's MAGIC based and Chinese - think of David Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China and you'd not be far off. HOWEVER - Marvel thought that for the movie universe, using the Mandarin as a straight up fanciful magic themed villain before even introducing Dr. Strange and magic into the MCU would be confusing. So the Mandarin never appears directly - but as a set of themes evoked from the original villain. But not the actual character himself.
@CaptainFrost32
3 жыл бұрын
@@logandarklighter The Mandarin was also tech based. He was able to use the wreckage of a Mak'luan starship to create the Ten Rings of Power. The Mak'luans look like dragons. [See : Fing Fang Foom]. The Mandarin refers to bureaucrat scholars from pre-Communist governments in Eastern countries. That dates the character and makes it a challenge to use in modern day movies intended for worldwide distribution. The origin of the character had him as a pre-Revolution mandarin who was a challenge to the Chinese Army and had ambitions to conquer the world. Mandarin comes from Portuguese from translating the title from Chinese and Malaysian terms. I can't remember when writers started to go mystic, but The Mandarin IS a tech based villain.

I completely agree! I was pleasantly surprised that they broached this subject using the "Iron Man" platform, to help dispel many myths about men's mental health, and at the same time communicate this message to such a large audience. I'm glad you liked the movie! You made a good commentary about mental health struggle being a major theme in this movie. Tony Stark's psychological problems were well-portrayed, and actually most of the characters went through some kind of psychological struggle or dilemma in this movie. Tony was struggling with how to protect the people he cared about, especially after his trauma in the wormhole. Pepper was struggling with whether she could remain with Tony despite how much danger he attracts. Aldrich Killian was dealing with severe resentment issues over being ignored and unwanted for most of his career. The Mandarin (Trevor Slattery) was frustrated over not getting the fame and attention he wanted. Even Rhodey was a little conflicted about being the Iron Patriot. Everyone had some interesting root behind their anxiety.

@reflectionist

A lot of people love the part where the suit rushes to Pepper during the attack on the beach house, and so do I -- But what really gets me about it is that Tony had to intentionally design and code that in. Just like how there was no way that Rhodey could have just "taken" the other suit in Iron Man 2. Nick Fury says that the suit wouldn't have done a damn thing if it weren't coded to Rhodey's biomechanics, and that it was a failsafe because he trusted Rhodey to wear it and have good judgement to use it properly, to hold Tony accountable to the amount of power that the suit gives him, if need be. It's a little bit of a misdirection - because that information is given to the audience AFTER the fact. So when the suit goes to protect Pepper as its priority, it re-contextualizes the scene with the jump-scare of the suit grabbing Pepper by the arm while she's trying to wake up Tony. It's SCARY, yes - but I'd put money on the fact that the suit would have just grabbed her and taken her to somewhere SAFE, whether that would be Stark Tower, to SHIELD HQ or directly to Natasha Romanoff, or something like that. I love the MCU, but I've always been a Batman guy, so I don't know the Marvel comics as well as I probably should. So somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that what the comics call "Extremis" only really debuts in the MCU right after he calls that guy Squidward. (No spoilers! If you know, you know, if you don't, you don't.) Also, another out-of-context non-spoiler, I love the fact that the entire message of this movie is, 'If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it."

The Marvel one shots are hard to find, but if you can you should. They’re short videos that show a little more than the movies do with some lesser characters. One involves Agent Coulson on his way to New Mexico to deal with Thor and the other one (the far better one) shows what happens to the actor that portrayed The Mandarin in jail. This short really tries to make up for the disappointment of not having the real Mandarin. Also, Justin Hammer returns and is hilarious!

Extremis gives people regenerative powers as well as super strength and making them explode. That's how Killian got his arm back and survived the explosion. It's also how Pepper came back from the fall, unharmed.

As a fan of the comic I am still mad at what the studio did with the Mandarin. In the comics his power is magic based and very hard for Tony to understand. Ben did a good job portraying him up until he was shown to be a front man. Love your reaction. Iron Man 1 is still my favorite.

The may suits that Tony made were his version on coping with his anxiety, remember what Harley said "you're a mechanic right? You said so, why don't you just build something". Tony blowing up his suits at the end was his way of showing that he was okay and that he was starting to deal with his anxiety compared to how he had been seen throughout the movie from the beginning where he usually just runs from the topic both literally and figuratively. Also for Pepper surviving the fall that was because of what Killian gave her, similar to what he has, they can survive and regenerate even from some normally fatal injuries such as Killian being blown up from within the Mark 42 suit.

One time, during the summer of 2013, one way back to Japan (that's about a 15 hour flight), I was watching Iron Man 3 WHILE on an airplane. The aiplane rescue scene made me a little nervous lol

I rarely watch this film. Not because I dislike it, but because, for me, it is so raw. I suffer from PTSD and RDJ plays it so well. When I saw this in theatres, I cried seeing his panic attacks and other symptoms. I felt a major movie had finally introduced PTSD to the real world in an easy to understand way.

The fall from Air force 1 was done for real in 2 parts; 12 stuntmen jumped from a plane in costume with a stunman in a green suit for Iron Man, and they really grabbed each other before opening their chutes. They did the fall into the water next for real (can't remember if it was from a helicopter or from a crane) with no CGI except for Iron Man's suit!

people often ask why the avengers are not together for the Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America movies right after they teamed up, Kevin Feige explained this because these movies took place in the same week - Iron Man 3, Thor Dark World and Winter Soldier

Tony's life and his consequences are always about warfare because of his Weapons Division from Stark Industries. He saw just how bad things could get for people whose lives have been ruined by weapons manufacturing. That's why he shut it down, but consequences always have a way of popping up again. He fights to "End the fight".

The way your opinion of Tony Stark is shifting is entirely the point they meant to convey along his journey, and is so much fun to watch you trek along. Their is still a long way to go till the present where we are now, but I feel you will undoubtedly appreciate him more as a character at times to come.

I like this movie but I wish they didn’t go with a comedic twist with the Mandorin. I am a fan of the Iron Man animated series and this villain is the main villain of that series. The fact that they copped out and did a comedic twist bugs me but I have learned to live with it.

Iron Man has been my favorite from the beginning. I enjoyed the Captain America movies, with Civil War as my favorite of those; however, it was not until "Avengers: Endgame" that I truly appreciated just how much of a badass he is. (The part when he stands up and tightens his shield did it for me.)

A lot of people hate when they add a kid to a movie. But Harley rocks. You know how I know that? Cuz we're connected! Love how Tony just treats him like everyone else and not as just a kid. Brilliant! Harley (well the actor playing him) is also in Jurassic World, and he's good in that too!
