Thanks for sharing your experience but I have to disagree with you. Yes a 1 year certificate might be risky for applying trough Express Entry but people tend to forget there are provincial nominations. For example in British Columbia you don’t have to wait for the full year to gain the experience required for express entry… if you for example studied a 1 year program on a DLI, get a PGWP and find a full time job offer in NOC 0, A or B you can apply to PR trough your province. There’s a downside (if you consider it a downside) which is that you are “tied” to the province you got nominated from, in this case BC, therefore you are obligated to live in that province. It’s the same in Ontario but there’s a little bit more requirements and it differs from province to province. In Quebec depends on if you’re doing a graduate certificate, post graduate certificate or masters degree.. you know each province has its own rules. What I recommend is for people to do a proper research of how the provincial nomination works in each province because in most cases you’re not only saving time but money!!! Also if you can afford an ICCRC consultant, do it.. it’ll make things easier. I love your videos, thanks for all the advices and experiences you’ve shared so far.

I feel like the main problem with 1 year PGWP is that you may or not be able to get 1 year of Canadian work experience to qualify for Canadian Experience Class, since this depends on how quickly do you find a job and how long it takes for your PGWP to be approved etc, am I right? OK! So, the point is that you got 465 with 1 year skilled work experience. Even if you complete 2 year program, you're gonna apply for PR after getting 1 year skilled work experience. That means you still get 465. In fact, you are applying 1 year later in that case. So, you would get 1 or 2 points less than 465. Right?

Yes but the challenge comes on getting a work permit, currently there are only two ways: open or closed work permit, Closed work permits are hard to come by bc of the need of having to find an employer to sponsor you to work here. Which is why some consider the study pathway bc of the added benefit of working in Canada after graduation. But if that hurdle is passed and all other eligibility requirements are met - then your point stands.

It’s really a difficult question to answer as there are so many variables and factors. I am not sure which country you are from. Canada values education system and from certain countries. Certain schools like Harvard, Yale or Berkeley, have a good reputation for certain subjects and Canadian employers may place higher value. In terms of finding a job, it really depends on the occupation you are applying for. I mean, if you are applying for a teller at the bank, then Bachelors will make you competitive. Thanks for your experience! I was considering the 1 year study and 1 year pgwp, but am thinking of alternatives. Like what if I go with my gf, and instead of our original plan of both of us studying one year, we allocate our money for one person to study 2 years. I think there's a way for your spouse to work while the other studies, right?

I'm having the same thoughts. If my spouse study for 1 year and I'm working with an open work permit, I will be eligible for CEC after 1 year (and maybe some PNP). is it safe?

My plan is to study in Canada for Master’s degree for 2 years. My spouse is a developer and will be going with me as a dependent. He intends to apply for a work permit so he can work while i’m studying. I’m not sure if he is eligible to apply for PR himself after a year? (I’m kinda uncertain because he will go to Canada as a dependent, not for study purpose…)

The information is not too bad but people should give correct information. If you study 1 year you will get a 1 year PGWP, you study 2 years you'll get a 2 year PGWP (not 3 years) max is 3 year PGWP. If you apply for PR under CEC in Express Entry you can be outside of Canada you don't need to be inside Canada. She could have gone back home and work and come back as soon as she received her PR. I am not sure why the government created CEC saying it does not require education when in reality you can only get enough CRS points when you have education. There was only one draw during Covid 19 time that allowed CEC with CRS points of 75 but this I think is an absolute exemption on Feb. 13, 2021 inviting over 27000 applicants. For me the CEC is primarily good for students who study in Canada and get a PGWP and work in a NOC O, A or B occupation which as per requirement.

Katy, I would like to clarify some of your statements: 1. As per IRCC policy: a 2 year program MAY lead to a 3 year PGWP. The word may is used to give the visa officer discretionary powers in making a decision on granting a 3 year PGWP. In most clear cases, the student that studies a 2 year program gets a 3 year PGWP. 2. Yes, you are right I could have come back home. However, I took into consideration some challenges during that particular time, which was during the height of COVID. There were travel restrictions, rules, regulations and bands. There were also challenges of gathering documents that are located within Canada which requires personal authorization. All these documents, took some time to gather after I received my ITA. So, I decided it was better to remain here and wait it out. That decision turned out to be the right one as I was able to gather all my documents needed to apply for PR and saved a lot of time and money. 3. CEC is mainly for anyone with IN CANADA work experience. So, education is not necessary. But, in Canada education leads to a PGWP. PGWP is a type of an open work permit. There are not many types of open work permits. So, with a PGWP, one can get in-Canada work experience. Aside from an open work permit, there is a closed work permit which is extremely hard to get. So, in theory your statement is correct. In practice, it is not necessarily true. 4. There were many draws during COVID time. The one that you mentioned was just one of many.

Hi Rachel, thanks for all the inputs! I am an international student at University of Waterloo. I have come for my masters with above 3 years of work experience back in India. My total duration of the course is 16 months but I want to finish it in 1 year to save costs. I believe in this situation I will get only 1 year of PGWP, hence I want to apply for my PR as soon as I complete my masters. I calculated my CRS score is coming out as 502. Can I apply for PR under FSW category as I have 3 years of foreign work experience back in India? I think if I go through the CEC path I need 1 year of Canadian work experience and it will be too late for me.

Hello, thank you for this very informative video. It really has helped me to clarify a lot of things i've been wondering about. I do have a few questions though, im planning to pursue a 1 year post graduate certificate by january 2022. I already hold a bachelor's degree from a foreign country. Did you hold a bachelor's degree prior to your arrival in Canada ? Does having a foreign bachelor's degree grant more points (I've read about the ECA but not sure if i can apply for it as soon as i get there). I've done a calculation for estimated CRS points and when factoring in the bachelor's degree verified by an ECA, it has granted me a comfortable CRS score (490 as a french speaker), so i just wanna make sure that having a foreign bachelor's degree helps. Thanks again!
@rrdancel

Hi Maro, Foreign degree definitely helps. Especially if its verified through an ECA like WES. If so, it will gain you more points for your CRS score which can greatly benefit you for being selected for PR. Best of luck! 😊

What are the major impacts gonna face after trying at the age 30 for academic visa(canada) ?? Will it impact on PR after the course??? In case if tried after age 30 for academic ??
@rrdancel
3 жыл бұрын
For Express Entry, age will be a negative factor for applicants after 30 years old. You start to lose points after 30. However, you maybe able to make up some points in other areas such as education or work experience. Also, immigration could be an issue. It really depends on each person’s circumstance. I highly recommend consulting with an authorized representative before taking this route. If you need more info, please message me on instagram
