@NACLGames

The reason why Dough has a 'better' screen coating is the gorilla glass that they slap on top...is literally just it. The Spectrum black uses a LG screen that comes with a matte (or some people consider it semi-gloss) coating. Do they strip that coating off? Nope. They just fit the glass on top. Congratulations, your screen is now gloss. Without any actual improvement in clarity from the original matte screen. In fact it's a little worse, since no matter how 'glossy' a coating is, it's still blocking a distorting a little bit of light. They even showed this by accident in a promotional video about their factory process, the matte coating is still there. And that's why this channel is a steaming load of crap. The host, for all their anal fixation on glossy screens, can't even tell the difference. And frankly, once they're hours into using a screen, most people don't notice any difference anymore either. If you really want a glossy screen for all the usual reasons, this monitor is more than good enough. Don't buy this channel's bullshit on this being semi-gloss or problems with other screens that other reviewers don't also mention. There's many types of scams out there. Sometimes it's very deliberate plots, like how Dough makes their screens. Nobody should be surprised that a company that is already known for scamming people out of monitors entirely also fudge their product anyway. And sometimes, it's due to moronic incompetence. Like this channel, farming views off 'glossy angst'.

i want to know, does the gorilla glass version of the dough really look grainy? As far as dishonesty about the dough, he has said before that it is gorilla glass on top of matte, but it is weird as to why he never ended up showing a closeup of the pixels like with other monitors. I'm honestly just looking for a clean looking panel, I have matte screens and have begun to notice the grain on bright flat color areas, which you don't even need a microscope to really even see, which is why I'm also skeptical of people saying that matte mostly looks the same as glossy as far as clarity. I was hoping on the new ROG strix monitor but apparently according to this guy it has slight grain present despite being advertised as glossy (i feel like this is the only reviewer that would actually care enough to tell, everyone else who doesn't care as much just spouts the same stuff about glossy and its not really helpful). the closest alternatives for me were the spectrum black gorilla glass (no normal glossy version available), or the MSI QD OLED, which has its own problems being qdoled... apparently.

The whole glossy vs matte thing is way overrated. In perfect conditions (dark room and so on) the glossy one will look better, once you start adding light from random directions (especially sunlight) the matte one is better because you can see something other than your reflection. People need to stop being so emotional about this whole debate. I can already see comments like 'matte's objectively worse', 'glossy's objectively', 'glossy's better in all situations' even though we all know very well that these statements are all false because at the end of the day it's all down to opinion. In my opinion y'all are too defensive about what you prefer similar to how for example Apple and Samsung fans would defend their brand just for the sake of defending it even though their arguments are unlogical. What I'm trying to to say is that it really doesnt have to be like that. We could as just accept each others opinion, there's really no logical reason to lead such a irrational debate where people are trying to claim something's objectivity that is impossible to claim because it's actually entirely subjective. It would also prevent us from how other people from the outside start thinking that this channel is a fanclub for glossy fanatics because thats what people start thinking when irrational statements like 'glossy's objectivly better' are commented even though it's obviously wrong. I feel like if there's anything we should objectively conclude on, then its the fact that manufacturers are at fault because they're not providing us with enough options instead of taking part in those unnecessary and unlogical discussions.
@PD-ws4td
3 ай бұрын
Who's emotional? Anyway, glossy being "objectively" better is true if we assign a goal to it. If the goal is to preserve image quality, then glossy is objectively better than matte. Otherwise, if you don't care about maximising visual quality, then matte vs glossy becomes a matter of personal preference. Matte coatings does degrade the visual quality of the screen, and that's just an objective fact, but it handles reflections differently and in a way you may or may not prefer.
@JanM2
3 ай бұрын
@@PD-ws4td I'm gonna answer your question and the rest of your text separately and I'm gonna start with everything besides the question as to who is emotional. So regarding the rest of the text, you are obviously right with what you're saying, but I'm also not sure why mentioning this because I never argued this wouldn't be the case. My point was not that glossy can't be better if you assign a goal to it, my point was that there are people who argue that glossy/matte is always better regardless of the goal. That's where the problem lies. If you however assign a goal to it, then obviously one can be better than the other, but there's also no problem with people claiming this and therefore that's not what I was discussing in my first comment. After all, it was my intent to discuss a problem and not to discuss something that's not a problem. And regarding the question, 'who is emotional'. Well, maybe the term 'emotional' right here appears a bit confusing, but what I meant is this observation where people get overly obsessed with either their preference for glossy or matze finishes to the point where rationality gets lost e.g. 'x is objectively better' even though this is obviously a false statement. When I'm claiming people are emotional I'm of course not meaning people are on the verge of crying or slamming their keyboard while writing, but instead that it is still an emotion or at least a psychological effect that triggers people to act overly defensive for their preferred finish to the point where statements become irrational. This irrational behaviour caused by our mind is what people should stop and because it is caused by emotions towards what you prefer, people should chill with the emotions over their preferred finish to stop this behaviour. And in case you dont think it's down to some sort of emotions/psychological effect: What else do you think makes people claim such obviously false things such as 'matte is objectively better' while this is objectively seen false? Are people really incapable of thinking more logical than such a false conclusion?

No, glossy is not better. Matte is superior. Of course personal preference plays a role. You're welcome to your own opinion, and I know there's a vocal minority that loves glossy. But the fact is, most people do prefer matte - that's exactly why most monitors are made that way, and e.g. the more expensive Neo G8 has a premium matte coating while the cheaper Neo G7 is more glossy. There are pros and cons, but to most people small glossy reflections are much more distracting and noticeable than a larger diffused "reflection" on a matte screen. Glossy reflections are smaller but much brighter, more defined, and your eyes can focus on them. Diffuse reflections are larger but harder to actually pick out. And if you're in a pitch black room then both are good.

I mean absolutely no offense, but surely all these manufacturers conduct market research and know what their customers want better than a random KZitemr. You're absolutely welcome to your preference if glossy monitors. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that and I agree that there are some advantages. But you have to understand that you're part of a vocal minority. I watch a lot of your videos and to be honest the constant ranting about matte and obsessing over glossy seems a bit fanatical. With all due respect. Displays are often glossy by default, and they are made matte as an extra step. You've even made videos about removing that coating. They don't spend that extra time and money putting the coating on for no reason - the matte coating is a premium feature to provide a better viewing experience for most users. Their market research shows that most people want this, otherwise they would cut costs and not bother.

If you are saying its "better" because other metrics, then yes those can be opinions. But when you can see an image more faded out next to another, thats just simply not an opinion.

Monitor is trash for oled hdr and lacks that brightness we need. Going back to my Alienware aw3235qf and Aorus qdoled

You forgot to turn the power save setting off which causes a 10% reduction in brightness. Major mistake. This monitor has great brightness

More glossy shilling. You’ve been at this for a while now. No one argues glossy isn’t better when you can control all the atmospheric lighting, but that’s not the reality for most people and thus, matte wins in a lot of scenarios.

Matte has its use, but it's about trends in the industry. If we don't insist on having glossy versions, manufacturers will just slap matte onto everything and call it a day. We're talking dedicated gaming monitors here, and most gamers have alien tech such as window blinds.

I think they should make each monitor glossy and matte so people can choose rather than over populate one finish over the other lol. I can’t deny glossy does look nicer over all anybody being honest would say that. My problem is I been using matte screen for years and when I had a glossy one I was by a window and would always have to close the blinds to remove the reflections but yes glossy does look cleaner

@@elliotpolanco159 It's the complete opposite. You need a dark room to get a half-decent image on the glossy screen. That's the only situation in which it doesn't get totally ruined by obvious reflections. The matte screen looks great in all scenarios.
