I can't tell you how much this video has put my mind at ease has given us a game plan, just overall exactly what you need. Very informative on what to have and not to have, nice to know not to go overboard. could you do a video on your tool kit and fire kit at some point? This was the best video I've seen on renting out your RV, thank you! Question: the only thing I'm worrying about is I work until 2pm on Sundays so the drop off time can be an issue for me. Would I be able to have the person drop the vehicle off and later I can inspect it myself or does it have to be done together?

Great question. We've run into that problem also. In rare cases we will have people drop off when we are not there. We encourage them to do their own walk around video before they leave to document the condition. Then you can do your own inspection when you get back home.

Great video, thanks for all of the info! We wanted to buy one to live in for a short time and then rent it through Airbnb. We’ll have to do it that way because it will be older and like you inferred, can’t compete on outdoorsy but because it will be on the Rio Grande River we think fishermen will rent it or people checking out the valley. That of course will be well thought out i.e. fish cleaning station OUTSIDE, a dedicated freezer or refrigerator just for fish, etc. Thanks again!

We require the renter to have a brake controller. We have had people get them installed right before picking up. We are also considering getting a removable plug-and-play brake controller that we can charge a fee to use..

Is it worth doing this as a full time business? Say one purchases 10 vehicles and renting it on ourdoorsy or rvshare , do you think one can make a good living out of it?
@DriveNorth
3 жыл бұрын
I imagine you could do this full time, but if I was renting out ten, I'd want to branch out on my own, get commercial insurance, and keep all the revenue for myself.

Random question: where are the renters when they are filling out the paperwork? Outside with clipboard? Inside the Rv? Or do you have office space in your house?
@DriveNorth
3 жыл бұрын
Good question, we have a little patio table in front of our house that works well. Otherwise, we do the paperwork in the camper.

Also, what would you say to people who want to buy rv just to rent it out for profit? So, no experience with RV’s ourselves but want to rent it out.
@DriveNorth

It would be very difficult to do w/o any RV experience. I would suggest getting one, use it for a month or two, then rent away! good luck.

How do you deal with a renter who says they emptied and flushed the holding tanks, or say they cleaned, but didn't do either? Is there a way to charge their account after the fact, once it's been dropped off & discovered? Thanks! Great video!
@DriveNorth
4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I address this a little in our latest June update video. We have a window of time before we give Outdoorsy or RV Share the ok to release their security deposit. If they brought the tanks back full, we can deduct a fee out of that. We charged $30 for dumping and $40 for cleaning.

What do you do about the different height of hitch receivers on various tow vehicles? Do you get them to measure and let you know before they come? I have a Blue Ox weight distribution system that the dealer installed. It is adjustable for height but I've never adjusted it.
@DriveNorth

Yes, I have each renter measure their hitch hgt then I adjust my system accordingly.

Hi thanks for this video ! How do you ensure renters have brake controller and appropriate hitch?
@DriveNorth
3 жыл бұрын
Good questions. We ask in advance if they have a controller. If not, we have a wireless plug in one they can rent from us. They use our hitch set up with works with any 2" receiver.

How do you know what to charge the person for damage? In the moment... how do they pay?
@DriveNorth
4 жыл бұрын
Great question. If you notice damage, you call Outdoors/RV share and put a hold on their security deposit. That gives you time to research how much a part is, get an estimate at a shop etc. The cost of the repair can come out of their deposit or an insurance claim can be made if it is significant. We just had this happen and plan on doing a video on this soon.

How does it work out where they are dropping off on a Sunday? That’s part of the weekend. I’m assuming I can do what fits us.

I'm not sure what you are asking. I would say that most of our rentals come back on Sundays. Since I work M-F, it works out pretty well.

Would I need to have my own insurance on the trailer, or do I just leave mine uninsured and only have Outdoosy insurance on it while it’s in use by other people?
@DriveNorth

Great question. Roamly is the the only company that I know of that will allow this. In fact, they pro rate your bill based on how much it's rented out. The more it's rented and covered by a rental platform, the less you pay for personal coverage. You can help support the channel and get a free quote using this referral link. Thanks! www.roamly.com/?tid=1026409f47dd354ef90148f66b8019&cam=R7&subcam=1746

What happens if they do extensive damage? Like spilling wine all over the carpet or putting holes in the walls or something?
@DriveNorth

If it's something that is not accident related, like the situations you mentioned, then damages come out of their security deposit. That is why we upped ours to $1500

Do you have to place commercial insurance on your rv? I’m sure if your finance company or personal insurance company found out you’re renting out they wouldn’t be too happy.
@DriveNorth
4 жыл бұрын
No we do not have commercial insurance. It's something we've thought about though. We did have one insurance claim through RV Share and it went ok. I called our personal insurance company to verify that we are doing is ok. They gave us the thumbs up. And I've never heard of a finance company making a deal of someone renting. I think as long as they are getting their monthly installments, they are happy.

How much does outdoorsy take off the daily rate fee to use them as a company? For example if you're charging $200 a day what would outdoorsy charge for fees?

20 percent, so we would get 160 out of a 200 rental

Not any more with Outdoorsys new 25% fee and definitely not when all they do is run an ID check to make sure they're real or some shit. People will treat your RV like shit and it's not worth the headache to spend your time and effort to replace or repair the damages etc. What makes it worse is you can't read the rating of a renter so you really are just gambling with one of your most prized and high value possessions, hoping that the person is respectful. Ask me how I know.
