Far from it, MGS, MGS:3 and MGS:4 were masterpieces. Phantom Pain gameplay wise, even if its not my taste, is very good, but the story is lackluster and disappointing. Plus the "no cut" cutscenes or whatever you call those cutscenes without cuts, are not exactly cinematic like the old ones.

Couldn't agree anymore. This game almost doesn't feel like metal gear solid to me. I remember be so hyped about Big Boss story was going to connect right into metal gear 1, 2 and solid. But instead we get a very dull story, repetitive missions, missions spoiled during the helicopter rides, boring bosses. The combat and mechanics were stellar though.
@BronxSon718

Lol ppl still up on that narrative. Kojima got a budget of between $60-$80 million and Kojima himself said that for a first he decided to focus on gameplay mechanics before story. Konami wanted a PS3/Xbox 360 version to push sales since a lot of ppl haven’t transitioned yet to next gen and Kojima said he refused to allow someone else to handle the programmming because he is a “perfectionist” which took up time because he was trying to program the game and work out bugs for 4 different consoles he kept asking for more time and money Konami said no. By 2012 he completed work on the Fox Engine and started development on MGSV. He had an agreement and kept wanting more and more time plus he shouldn’t of been messing around doing PT as a pet project when MGSV was suppose to be priority. Shinkawa stated they had intended to do a 5 chapter arc just like Peace Walker but it would’ve taken too long since all they had was storyboard ideas and that the script on those chapters weren’t even completed. In the end Konami is a business also the whole MGSVGZ and TPP being released as two separate entities was Kojimas Idea. He stated back in 2013 after the whole “Joakim Morgen” ruse that he was developing two new MGS games for two different timelines and that they would both tie up all lose ends and finally complete the MGS story.

@sergioriggio1769

It doesn't have a weak story representation. Because the entire plot is made of metaphors. Kojima was simply hiding with Snake, his companions and Metal Gear the current state of many developing or warzone countries. It's basically a retelling of the Iraq War. The destruction of Mother Base and its 2 towers, the sexual abuse on Paz in the black site, the definition of dogs of war, the exploitation of human intelligence, human bombs, usage of biochemical weapons, fear of Yellow Cake, phantom hunt and retaliation chain. As a massive Metal Gear Solid fan, this game left me with mixed emotions but after 8 years I can finally come to the conclusion that this game was a disappointment. - The game mechanics are amazing, and the twist a good shock but could have been so much better. - I understand the theory behind the story, but the impact was minimal in comparison to the previous titles. - Venom was a silent protagonist. This did not work. You, the player, were to be the protagonist and live through Venom to become ‘Big Boss’ - a great concept that fell flat. - Keifer has an awesome voice, but most of his lines were through casette tapes. - David Hayter was not in the game. He should have voiced Big Boss. Awful decision. - Gray Fox would have been a perfect edition to the story. He was Big Boss’ closest ally. - Act 3 was incomplete. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain really left me with feeling at a loss, a phantom pain. Maybe that was what Kojima wanted?
@liamjones9115
Жыл бұрын
I hear this theory a lot; that Kojima is consistently playing 4D chess but I have a suspicion Metal Gear Solid was his masterpiece because that game was simply heavily influenced by 80's - early 90's action movies without any desire to be anything other than. He believed his own hype, with MGS 2 he was clearly on an Anime kick and rather that deliberately thinking it would 'subvert expectations' he honestly wanted people to find an androgynous younger character 'cool' because that's simply what he was enjoying that at the time. If he was stead fast in his desire to always make a game the fans didn't know they needed then why is Snake Eater universally recognized as the best game in the franchise and the game we all wanted? mgs 4 was another attempt to over intellectualize a game that in 1998 allowed us to be a cool archetypical hero infiltrator bad ass? His best idea ' oh he's old now though' Kojima is a visionary in the sense of making the idea of blockbuster movies be playable but that died in 1999 he started to smell his own farts from then on. It then devolved into the confused political commentary of a 17yrs old who's read a bit of Chomsky.

Even though theres alotta sides, some tie into who BB/VS are as people and what they want to fix in the world. There are hints that they tie into the main plot but can be overlooked. I never thought Solid and Snake should have had the same voice. I was happy when they casted someone else. I wish they'd just come to a deal and do a re-release Director's cut.

playing the game since release. Love the overall melancholic atmosphere and sandbox openworld, where you can do what ever is on your mind. There is no such other game out there.

Absolutely phenomenal gameplay for sure. The game is sadly incomplete its very clear Kojima was pushed out before the game was complete. I wonder what we could have gotten.
