Probably in the future, but not yet. 7 SB wins is more than 3 from when I last checked. That has nothing to do with me liking Brady. It's just the facts. Mahomes will win more than 2 more super bowls. When he wins 2 more, I think it needs to be discussed. But for now...nope. Let time takes it's course. Brady and Mahomes both had 3 super bowls at the same age. Brady isn't the slouch some people think he is. He won a super bowl with another team other than the Pats. Mahomes hasn't yet.

One thing that isn’t mentioned enough in the Mahomes vs. Brady argument is just how much better the AFC is now then it was when Brady was in his prime. The only QBs Brady had to worry about preventing him from getting to a Super Bowl were Manning, Roethlisberger and once Flacco. Mahomes is going up against Allen, Burrow, Jackson, Herbert, Tagovailoa, Stroud, Lawrence and Rodgers now too (if he is healthy). Mahomes path to Super Bowls is seems much harder now than what Brady dealt with.

I have a theory. Late round picks are more likely to win a lot of superbowls than first overall picks. To be a first overall pick the team sucks. If you're a late pick who is a good qb it means your team doesn't suck and you have a skilled gm at putting togethor good teams. It takes skill to pick a talented qb late in the first round. Even your average Joe can draft a good qb with the first round pick.
@JonSmith-hk1bq
7 ай бұрын
Out of curiosity, I did a quick count. 27 QBs have been taken with the first pick of the draft. 7 of them won Super Bowls. 6 of those 7 won at least two Super Bowls. Note: There are only 13 QBs in history who have won two Super Bowls. 16 Super Bowls titles between them accounting for 27.5% of all Super Bowl wins. As to the theory that late-round QBs are more likely to win the SB: 7 QBs taken after the 3rd round (or in the case of Kurt Warner, went undrafted) have won a Super Bowl. 3 of them won multiple Super Bowls. 14 Super Bowl titles between them account for 24.1% of Super bowls. Brady accounts for half those wins.

When Mahomes played amazing his first year the exact opposite occurred, "Mahomes got by Reid's terrible time management and won!" Yet Brady outside of Moss for 2 years never had a WR close to the explosiveness that Mahomes had with Hill. Also, his entire career he's been with arguably the best TE ever in Kelce. Point being is, the excuses used to minimize Brady's success don't seem to fall on Mahomes's shoulders that's why people clown and say "It's all Andy Reid". Mind you Reid did make Donavon McNabb an MVP candidate and all 3 of Smith's PB appearances were under Reid. Plus after taking a 2-14 KC team, he flipped the script and brought them too the playoff's in 1 year. Reid is a solid coach and an offensive minded one at that. Shouldn't that hurt Mahomes more than BB for Brady who was solely defensive minded? Regardless, it is fun watching Mahomes and if he keeps this up for another 10 years there won't be much of an argument.

It happened with Brady, it’s happening with Mahomes. The unbelievable amount of times I have watched a defensive player just not tackle Mahomes is mind-boggling. 3 super bowls in 6 years is insane enough, I can understand the GOAT dispute, and I might even agree. Once Mahomes gets his 4th, and MAYBE his 5th, in however many years (probably within another 4-5 years) I think he will be without a single doubt in anyone’s mind, the GOAT.

@@curtisedmonds9933I’m not sure what he said, but to your point, Brady got out scored twice by his kicker in the superbowl. Personally I do find it difficult to outright call mahomes the goat even though I want to, but I think it’s convenient that Brady has some Super Bowl wins that are more on the weaker side. I would say thus far, of mahomes’ 3 superbowl wins, his roster was worse than both the eagles and the niners, with him being the deciding factor. Looking objectively at Brady’s super bowls, his team was widely considered much better with the exception of the first couple in the early 2000’s, which is wild considering how good those defenses were, but understandable nonetheless

I still say that Peyton Manning is the ultimate master of the QB position, even if he isn’t the GOAT. Nobody else possessed the ability he had to control the offense, his ability to read defenses and make adjustments, and his insane consistency for well over a decade. There’s a reason that nobody else comes close to his MVP and All Pro numbers, he could be put on any team with any coach and be a lock for at least 10 wins a year MINIMUM. He didn’t have as good an arm as Rodgers, the creativity of Mahomes, or the longevity (or luck) of Brady, but there was nobody who had complete control of every aspect of the offense like Peyton.

Strongly disagree about Montana. I actually do completely agree that Mahomes is likely to finish ahead of Montana, but your argument here is just a little bit too reliant on projection, and I personally believe that we have to evaluate active players as if they were going to retire tomorrow for the purposes of GOAT discussions. If Mahomes retired tomorrow, he might have the SLIGHT edge on Montana’s regular season career, but Montana is still ahead by a greater margin in post-season play and success. Like I said, I feel very confident that he’ll get there, but I absolutely hate the idea of giving active players credit for stuff they haven’t done yet. You get to be the GOAT when and only when you’ve earned it. Also, RE: the Brady section of this video, given his style of play, I’m not sure Mahomes maintains this level of play for more than another 10 years. It’s possible, but, given his raw athleticism, it just seems like an inevitability that he’s going to take a bad hit on the run at SOME point in the next decade that sets him on a gradual decline. The kind of hit that guys like Brady rarely took, because they were such boring stereotypical pocket passers. TBH, I view Mahomes as a more talented and luckier Rodgers. He’s absolutely got the skills and mentality to unseat Brady and Montana, but there is so much more that can go wrong for a QB like him that, over the course of an entire career, it just seems like a statistical inevitability that he’s going to have a much shorter career with a much more gradual and progressive decline than Brady. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong (because, fuck Brady, amirite), but he doesn’t get credit for what he MIGHT do any more than Rodgers gets credit for what he SHOULD HAVE done.

As of now I still have Brady as the GOAT with Mahomes being on the same tier as Montana and Manning. Brady still has the greater career stats and accolades which naturally come from his insane longevity. If you're going by eye test only, Mahomes, Rodgers and Marino are tops imo (on the field, not talking about in the bedroom). It's hard to project into the future, but it's more likely than not that Mahomes is named the GOAT when his career is over. 2 more Super Bowls and 2 more NFL MVPs I think will be enough (especially if the Chiefs pull off the three-peat). I'd also like to see Mahomes pull off one behind the back pass in a game as an aside.

Obviously his peak is already as good as anyone. But no, longevity should count for something. And doing it without a HOF offensive coach would be nice to see. I have an interesting take...Mahomes QB opponent in each Super Bowl. Jimmy G, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, and Tom Brady. There's plenty of time for the comp quality to increase, but so far, the only quality QB he played against, he lost to. Yes, he doesn't play defense, but the pressure of the opposing offense changes how he would play and the pressure level applied. Not against him being the GOAT, but it's way too premature to crown him today.

Most of the best QBs in the NFL are in the AFC so he can’t play them in the Super Bowl. He has to beat them before he makes the Super Bowl. This year he beat both Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen on his way to the big game. He can’t chose who he faces only beat what is in front of him.

Ever since Mahomes thought they get real defensive when he comes up. Because they know. Mahomes is a better talent already, and they’re scared he might have the chance to surpass him ring wise.
