Better buy up those GXP cranks before they are gone. I get the feeling they won’t be producing those much longer. On the plus side, the threaded DUB bottom bracket is pretty cheap and easy to swap out if the bearings do go south.

SLX is definitely the best bang for buck among the Shimano 12 speed drivetrains. Deore cranks are trash, they have a major issue with the splines on the left crank arm stripping out, causing the center cap to shear off and the crank arm to come off even with tight pinch bolts. My bike came with Deore, they stripped out, warrantied, but who knows when that warranty replacement will ever come, have since upgraded to XT cranks, would've gone SLX, but could only find XT.

@@LoveMTB it was fine for a few months then suddenly the arm came off on a trail. The 2 plastic parts (fixing bolt & safety plate) both broke as a result, and you can't really use it without those for long. Seems odd to have such fragile parts involved anyway.. I guess the pinch bolt torque needs to be checked frequently? One theory I read is if you use wide flat pedals & your stroke produces more lateral force (as opposed to clipless), this design may not be ideal. Hollowtech ii design is less robust with only 14nm torque vs the single 8mm bolt 40nm+ high torque design of xtr (and really every other manufacturer). Even the splines of the hollowtech ii are much finer that the XTR, and they pretty much are compromised after the first failure.

On my 650b track bike I need a 155 to take advantage of the 650b extra small frame! My Deore M5100-1 32T 170mm crankset weighs 855g including chainring. Steel 32T chainring weighs 90g alone so the crankset less the chainring weighs 765g.

Hi, Can you please help me with something regarding FC-M8120 boost crank? Set came with two 3mm spacers. I order also aftermarket Garbaruk Chainring with 3mm offset that is specific for this crank. Do I use only one provided spacer on a non drive side? Thank You
@tomyboy1

@@LoveMTB Much appreciate for a quick replay. :) Yes I know about bottom bracket spacers. I have 73mm BB shell so I have only one 2.5mm spacer on a drive side. This is all ok, but this XT Crank 8120 model is boost 55mm chainline, that comes with additional 3mm spacers, that this manual said you have to use.. shrani.si/f/3e/iG/2R9NIrgN/screenshot-74.png I know now that I should get 8100 model with 52mm chainline, even if I have boost bike. I was just wondering, if I can use only provided spacer for the no-driven side. Chainring is clearing the frame no problem as it is offset for 3mm, it is better to have the chain ring closer in this case? Also if Im understanding this right, with 2.5mm spacer on the right side od the bottom bracket, you are pedaling this amount to the right not center? If I use only on opposite 3mm spacer between the crank and bottom bracket you should be centered?

@@LoveMTB Thanks. I will have to figure this out as I just paid 180 EUr for the set and don't want to bother with returning to another country. Just wanted to know if mechanically this would be ok, as long as I can tighten the crank with no play and if the gears would work than im ok? Cheers 😎

@@LoveMTB Maybe, if I had the money I would test both, Sadly last year in summer It was either go for Deore 1x12 which just came out, or go for a more stable option - GX eagle. given the disappointment, I had with Shimano's 1x11 and 2x11 I just did not want to test untested and kinda unverified new item. I already love the GX, and im not sure if I ever switch back to shimano, Maybe if some1 would gave a Giftbox of Shimanos deore then I could test it and I would love to test it. Sadly im not sponsored by any1, and also im not an youtuber so any chances of any kind of sponsorship are out of the window. So currently ill be buying what I already tested and was happy with it.
