I did remove the 20-inch performance wheels and replaced it with 19-inch wheels and Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack tires. Completely transforms the car by making it quieter and ride better. So far, I've driven 2,000 miles on 540 kWh of energy. Consider this: one gallon of gas has 33.7 kWh and I've driven 2,000 miles on the equivalent of 16 gallons of gas. Balanced review. Don't worry about the future of the company - there are plenty of suitors (vultures) hoping to grab Telsa up and put their own badge on it). As for road noise and wind noise: consider buying the version with the 19" tires - they ride much quieter and softer. THEN do watch some KZitem videos about adding some additional insulating seals. I highly recommend the additional door seals (P and Z), the roof loop seal and I went ahead and added some leftover Z seal to the trunk lid (on the tail lights put it on the lights themselves) and behind the license plate and plate holder. I realize at this price the Model 3 should come with all that already in place but hey, do it anyway. My car now sounds like a bank vault. ps: you didn't mention the ZERO maintenance requirement (saves huge amounts of time and money) and the total charging time over a year versus getting gas every week time spent. That is much, much less time spent even with a couple of road trips per year thrown in.

I have a LR M3 AWD with 18" wheels. I find the road noise to be acceptable, and the ride is not stiff-actually quite comfortable. Interestingly, the suspension was intially stiff, but it loosened up after about 1500 miles of driving. The acceleration is still quick enough to result in a "Tesla smile." I was surprised that on a recent trip which was half highway and half country roads the range was about 350 miles (560 km) on a tank of electrons with the AC on (it does have aerowheels). Your mileage may vary. The most fun is receiving new OTA updates about twice a month-like getting a surprise present.

Getting really tired of reviewers not getting their facts straight. Sentry Mode does not use all the cameras. It only uses one in front and one on each fender side, for a total of 3 cameras. And Tesla doesn't recommend keeping the battery at 80%, Elon has said a while ago that 90% is fine. Just so you know, the type of driving you do with an ICE vehicle also effects its range. That's not unique to an EV.
@kdkd693
5 жыл бұрын
Dan yes, agreed this is normal for Li -ion batteries. 80% is no longer the number. They don’t like to be held over 90% for long periods of time, however when you are going on a trip charging to 100% is not a long time for the battery. Same in RV’s with solar - I try to charge only to 90% (although my control system isn’t as smart or easy as Teslas) and I try never to go below 10%.

The reason given for lower range on highway driving is wrong. It isn't because the car doesn't have a chance to regen. It is because you are driving faster and air resistance is higher. This is the same for all cars, though the Teslas are better streamlined than most cars.

And no regen on the highway does impact the metro/highway range differential too. Electric cars with regen are very economical in stop start driving.
@johnnypoll1
5 жыл бұрын
@UCSCtoEIAXvwo-w9SQ2lFIbA you would need to explain that. You do get regen on the highway as you slow down and speed up and also when going downhill, but regen is not 100% efficient so as a rule, the less regen the better. The most efficient journey would be on a totally flat frictionless road.

I own an S and that smile you mentioned just doesn't go away. Was surprised to see they have used a different charging port to the S and X for the 3. But that's probably why the 3 car charge faster. One comment surprised me tho about Elon being a loose cannon, yes he is, but I keep in mind Tesla as a company is now 16 years old and going from strength to strength despite a trillion dollar industry being against them, so you should be safe they won't be going anywhere.

Hello from Italy, Dreamed of a Ferrari for years. Finally got it. it seats outside my window winking at me. Gave the car a name, called it a Model 3 I have more performance than a Ferrari. Told the gas station attendant to go to hell, and every time I pass by I feel richer. The local mechanic don't talk to me anymore, and all my neighbors are ever so much more friendlier to me, and keep asking me a lot of questions about my Ferrari, Hoops Tesla. Anyway since I cannot charge them for the Petrol, I decided to charge them for a ride. or they will not leave me alone. Elon Musk should pay me a commission for all the sales I am promoting for him and its magnificent machines. But I am ever so happy with the car, that it is a pleasure for me to convince so many friends as soon as they can to order their dream car too, convinced by me that they are buying a practically maintenance free car, trouble free, exceptional resale value exceptional low running costs, quiet, ecological and with a life expectancy of at least 20 years. Besides there isn't much in the car that could go wrong considering that the miracle has been achieved with about one third of the parts needed to put together the now defunct ICE car. In future if they were to offer me even a Ferrari, I will not exchange it for my Model 3.

I’m almost 50, and had a career most would call high upper middle class. I was also single up until 2 years ago, so my finances were very flexible in terms of automobile purchases/leases. I have owned a Crossfire SRT, Jaguar Xk8, 2x Jaguar XKRs, a Chevy SSR, 2x Corvettes, an M3, Z4M, SLK 55 AMG, a SRT 8 Challenger, a T/A 392 Challenger, and a Hellcat. The Model 3 is my favorite car of them all. Others were better looking in a sexy way like the Jags. Others were better looking in a mean way like the Challengers. Others, like the SLK and the SSR were fun due to their hardtop convertible nature, the M3 with a manual is such a good drivers car,and a Corvette is just a blast to drive. However, taking everything into consideration, for what you get for the money, accounting you will pay nothing for gas and practically nothing in maintenance except washer fluid and tire rotation, this car is amazing. I took baby steps and got the Model 3 Performance AWD as my first Tesla, and have already decided that apart from my classic cars, I will never again get a fuel powered vehicle. My wife loves it too, and we have jointly decided that in a couple of years we will trade the 3 in on a Model S with Plaid. Make of that what you will when you consider buying one.

@@PaulMaric Australia, while still unfortunately wedded to coal, is definitely moving to wind, solar and grid scale battery. Some countries are now mostly renewable on some days, such as wind power in U.K. These changes are purely due to economics. Wind and solar energy are cheaper than coal, nuclear and natural gas already, and the change is accelerating. EVs and renewables are the future, and for purely economic reasons since the operating costs are lower *and falling* . EVs get cleaner as the grid gets cleaner. Fossil fuel cars don't.
@satnitcboy

@@PaulMaric But for the "green side", there wouldn't be a Tesla. And as petroleum and diesel require electricity to produce, and electric motors are so much more efficient, even charging with power from a coal-fired plant is cleaner than fueling up an ICE. (meanwhile, let's get off coal ASAP.) Still, even some of us in America want to protect your Great Reef, and NOT to see your beaches under water and coastal cities flooding. [!] Nor our own. Very good review, I've watched many from the US and UK, and you hit all the marks.

Paul Maric Paul Maric yeah except you don’t need to pretend. The only situation where the CO2 emissions in an electric car is worse is when charging with Brown coal and comparing those emissions to a Prius, hardly a fair comparison. These FUDing oil shill talking points, are keeping Australia from having any chance of keeping up with the rest of the world. Perpetuating these false narratives just makes you look stupid to anyone that can see past your biases. How much more money do you want sent off shore paying for foreign fuel? At least burning coal keeps the money in Australia. And as the grid slowly transitions to renewables electric cars get better. Please stop the FUD on electric cars and actually help Australia keep pace with the rest of the world.
