I agree, long wire antennas can be very effective & guys who are saying MLA 30+ works great i think they haven't tried long wire antenna.

I've had nothing but great success with the MLA 30 loop, in fact I liked it enough to buy 3 of them, two of which are mounted on the roof and the 3rd for mobile applications. Nothing to adjust on these, assemble them and hook em up to a radio. By the way the loops are directional, you may get better results by pointing it N-S or E-W depending on your location.

Sometime this summer going to do a subscriber. requested comparison of the MLA-30 verses 3 different lengths of old school long wire antenna 25,50,75 feet plus the long wire requires no power unlike theMLA-30. I think you will be surprised at the results. PTSR.

@@PineTreeStateRestorations I have a 30 ft long wire on the side of my house which gets pretty good reception though it doesn't beat the MLA30 due to it's location. I'd be very interested in seeing the results of your test. Keep me posted.

I have a few friends with the same issues they just do not work better than a long wire in all the testing we have done but i am glad you're having better luck with yours, enjoy the short waves!! thank you PTSR.

@@PineTreeStateRestorations maybe they're not making them as good as they used to these days. Is very possible. Next to long wire I see similar reception with less noise.

Could you show it actually in use!! ? seen the vids of the set-up and mods you did, also of the placement.. now we need to see it in action!! ... a longwire would be far better for sure but the reason you would own one of these is you don't have the room or cant put one up...

Yes it will be highly detailed and I am going to give the long wires a great disadvantage to make it fair I think your going to be suprised at results PTSR

I believe you have a fake MLA-30+. I recently purchased one from China through Alibaba, and like yours, the preamp isn't potted. Mine is terrible, just noise with little signal. I then substituted my old MLA-30 preamp, and it worked much better. My theory is that these are units that don't work properly, thus not potted. Comments?

Maybe this is a fake-MLA. When I ordered it the first time on the internet, i got also a faked one, which received absolutely nothing. There is a suspicious thing that I see in your video. There is no black silicone on the circuit board. On my fake-MLA there was also none. On the original one the circuit board is nearly completely covered with a black silicone layer! My second MLA worked perfect.

Interesting my buddy has the blue led version with the black silicone he took his down put a long wire back up it's a great concept and better than nothing if you have no room, I have another video coming up this spring on this stay tuned. PTSR

I have done quite a bit of research on these, and they are identical in circuit only reason for different color leads is because that's what they had all made in China all copies of same circuit its actually a digital TV amplifier modified for radio not very efficient stay tuned I have a huge video coming up on these. I have compared a picture on the Web taken by M0LMI of the genuine MLA-30 amplifier board with a picture of a knock-off amplifier board at 0:28 seconds into this KZitem video. The amplifier boards appear essentially identical. Nonetheless, there is a big difference in performance: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uYqFzHdoiX6dhHY If the knock-off amplifier is based on the same schematic as used with a genuine MLA-30(+), then one or more of the following must be true: (*) the knock-off has an error in the printed circuit board (*) the knock-off uses inferior and/or different-valued components (*) the antenna wire and/or the coax supplied with the knock-off MLA-30+ are grossly deficient (*) the gain settings in the knock-off amplifier and/or "baising tee" unit are very different from genuine units.
