I agree it's a sleeper but I think the enamel version (311.30.44.50.01.001) could be the classic. It has everything this watch has but an enamel dial. I haven't seen one in person but the only thing that would turn me off the *001 watch would be if the dial was flat (no recessed sub-dials etc). If that's the case, I'm definitely on board for this to eventually garner hype from Speedmaster fans, only second to an Ed White speedy.

Great video, Dave, and very pleasantly presented. Dag Sabot asked three years ago about how to tell whether the 3313 in this watch is the ‘A’ variant, which I think most would like to avoid. What are your thoughts on that, please? This is a great watch, a lot more faithful to the Moonwatch than the latest 44mm models with only two sub dials, because its date window is so discreetly executed. Because of the look, the chronometer rating and the 100m. WR, I would consider trading my Apollo XI 30th if I could find a nice example to buy reasonably.

Hello Mike, Thanks for the kind comments! The variant of the movement can be found with a loop very discreetly printed on the edge of the movement, visible through the see through caseback (not to be confused with the large "3313" printed towards the center of the movement). Mine stated 3313B when I bought it. I was sure to get proof of that before I made the deal. I've since sent it to Omega when it began to run a little slow (more than 10 years old at that point), and with the servicing, they upgraded the movement to the 3313C. As painful as the price was ($850), it was worth knowing in could come back with the latest edition. The watch came back looking absolutely brand new with the old parts from the 3313B returned back to me as well. I see it's hard to find for under $5k. I think a fair price would be under $4500. I'm glad I got mine when I did, given what prices have moved to. Wish you all the best!

Thank you so much for making this video! Do you or anyone know about how thick this watch is? I see 14mm on various sales sites but usually don't trust those. My dad wants a Moonwatch but really wants a date window. I just discovered that this watch exists and it is absolutely perfect for what he's looking for (and his wrists easily sport a 44mm watch)

I love that Speedy but if I had a dime for every youtube vid claiming their iteration of a watch is going to be collectable someday...lol. When people talk about a watch potentially being collectable, that gives me the impression they're going to sell at some point.

Excellent video, well-reasoned points, and beautiful photography.! I do like the larger 44mm case size because I like you I have a 7-1/4 inch wrist and have always felt that the traditional Moonwatch wears a bit small for my tastes. I'm also a fan of the sapphire sandwich and the finishing on the rotor and bridge pieces is something to admire. Unfortunately, the upgrade to the coaxial movement adds $2000 (Gray Market) to the price of the watch over the traditional Hesalite hand-wind variant. That's a lot of scratch and puts me again in the dilemma of spending that amount of money on just one timepiece. The drumbeat from the denizens of the watch forum is always for the original Moonwatch. That makes me think you are right about the co-axial version becoming a classic in the future because it tends to be ignored and therefore more rare.
@DavesWatchLove

Lee K - Fortunately, I was able to pick this up for about the price of a sapphire sandwich. They list for a ridiculous amount from Japanese sellers on eBay, but I never see them actually sell for those prices. Private sellers (quite rare) sell them more reasonably.

Great video. Just picked one up on kijiji of all places for 4000 USD with box and papers. I consider that a no brainer investment in a watch that IMHO is destined to be a sought after watch. I agree with your appraisal of its significance but of course I am now biased.

I'm considering trading my tudor black bay chrono for this same watch, bought in 2013. I have been wanting to get a speedmaster for a long long time but the fact that it has no date has kept me at bay until the recent trade offer came up. I would love to get this legendary watch in my collection, esp with this one's extra WR, sapphire crystal and upgraded movement. The fact that it slightly deviates from the original moonwatch doesn't bother me. The extra functionality appeals to me more instead. The thing I'm worried about it whether I would regret trading a much newer tudor watch (bough in 2017) bought this watch which is almost 7 years old, and whether it's a worthwhile trade. I think I could trade my tudor chrono (with a slight top up) to get a much newer moonwatch sapphire sandwich edition instead. So I'm a bit torn whether it's a worthwhile trade for me. Your video has swayed me towards the monnwatch co-axial but I would still like to get your opinion on the subject. Thanks!

Hi Dave, I am pleased to have found this vid. Yesterday I made a straight swap with this watch, a 2011 version, in exchange for a Rolex Cellini 5116/8 from 2005. Initially I was concerned that I had made a big mistake due to the problems discussed on forums about the 3313 movement. The watch I received is a B series. On seeing your video I feel more at ease with my decision to have made the swap and hope that it performs well over the years to come.

A year in, my 3313B is working beautifully. Still within COSC accuracy, and the watch is about the same age as yours. As I said in the video, in the next few years, I'll get it serviced through Omega and get it upgraded to the 3313C so it will have the three-level coaxial escapement that George Daniel originally intended. But even as it is now, there's nothing wrong with this movement. Enjoy!
