It’s pretty obvious why. They’re meant for the collectors. I mean come on, obviously this guitar wasn’t some metal masterpiece instrument when it was made in the 70’s. But it WAS used to write/play metal masterpieces and some people want a piece of that history. I LOVE Metallica and even if I had enough money I wouldn’t buy one. But someone will and that’s the answer to your question. To your point I think it’d be way cooler to buy an old one like you mentioned, and spec it to the Kirk version oneself. I mean wouldn’t that be cool to say you did that? Anyway, you make a great point but this day in age there are options for everyone, so why not let the person who earned a fortune spend one on a guitar that makes them feel closer to their favorite band? Gibson has lost all respect from me as a current brand but I can appreciate this on its own.
@nandolemon

For the same reason people pay 3x for an Adam Jones Custom Shop instead of buying a 79 LP custom and swapping the pickup and doing small changes to the wiring. I also can’t understand why you would actually buy something that is not actually what they play instead of buying the real deal and playing the exact same guitar these blokes play for 1/3 or less the price.

just no. far too simple of a guitar to build for 14k. ive built guitars. at this point gibson are just laughing at who buys them. no appointments, no carved top, no binding, no burst paint job. just a glued together body cut out in a v, a neck and hardware. plain black finish with distress. the only thing to pay for is the distress and that aint worth 10k of no ones money. and then the fact that kirk is a shit player is the icing on the cake. greeny les paul only sold because of who it used to belong to, not because kirk now owns it. another gibson fail right here. these wont sell out straight away, i said it. lets see how it plays out.

Awesome video. Great playing bro. I loved learning all of their music back in the 80's. Kirk Hammett, and Scott Ian, are the reasons why I wanted play guitar. My bother and I are self taught from 1983. At first it was ACDC, Iron Maiden, then came Metallica, then Slayer. I would play, rewind, play, rewind, their cassettes over and over just the learn all this by ear. And Slayer, Sepultura, SOD/Anthrax, ect.... And we did ok in our local music scene for years because of it. You brought back some good memories for me, Thank you. How about a video, and medley, of Slayer with Jeff Hanneman's signature ESP, and amp setup? Your almost already there in this video.

Well unfortunately it isn't about young kids being inspired and playing. It about the kids of the past who are names now that Gibson can charge over $10,000 for a wall hanger. Sorry, Gibson will always be this now. It's over. People pay it and there is NO reason for Gibson to drop prices nor care about it at ALL. Edit: This is why companies like Harley Benton are great. You can get a GREAT instrument with GREAT specs for under $500. Is it a 1 for 1...no and it shouldn't be because a guitar SHOULD be played.

this is why I’ve never been a fan of the Gibson guitar company, and especially now the last 5 to 7 years it seems all they’re doing is catering to people who are either rich doctors and lawyers or Rockstars, because nobody can afford any of these guitars much less a real Metallica fan, $14,000 is ridiculous that’s like 3 to 4 vacations for me and my wife, I’m a Metallica fan but I’d rather spend the money 💴 going on a nice vacation and a Kiesel guitar 🎸 instead of This
