The 2025 Nissan Patrol's opulent twin's key specifications are revealed.
Focus is on the next Nissan Patrol, while important details about its more opulent sibling, the Infiniti QX80, have been made public.
The new teaser video for the QX80 was released by Nissan's premium brand, Infiniti, last night. It offers the first official look at the interior of the large SUV before its official unveiling on March 20 (US time).
The new twin-turbo V6 petrol engine of the QX80, whose capacity is unknown, is anticipated to show up in the next Patrol/Armada and generate 336 kW of power and 698 Nm of torque.
Compared to the Patrol's current 5.6-liter naturally aspirated V8, that's 38 kW and 138 Nm more. In comparison to the 3.3 liter V6 turbodiesel engine found in the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, the power is also 109kW higher but 2Nm lower.
The four-wheel drive system will remain in place, but a new nine-speed automatic transmission with two more speeds than the previous model will be linked to the V6 engine.
According to Infiniti, the new chassis supporting the next QX80 will give 20 percent greater torsional rigidity and be 57 percent stiffer laterally than the current SUV.
The Infiniti QX80 will be offered with air suspension and electronic dampers, while this has not been confirmed for the Nissan Patrol. It is unclear if this will be standard equipment or reserved for the flagship model.
It appears that the QX80 will get a whole new cabin, which will include a single-panel digital instrument cluster, an infotainment screen, and a two-spoke steering wheel.
How much it resembles the interior of the future Patrol/Armada is unknown.
The Patrol was Nissan's third most popular new car last year, with sales of 7,812 units, behind the smaller, more inexpensive X-Trail SUV (12,861 units sold) and the Navara wagon (8499 sales), despite the QX80 leaving Australian dealerships alongside the Infiniti brand in 2019.
Official statistics do not distinguish between the more rugged 70 Series, which will sell 15,035 units in 2023, and the more comfortable 300 Series, despite the latter selling better than the Toyota LandCruiser station wagon.
It is anticipated that the 2025 Nissan Patrol will go on sale in Japan at the close of 2024. Meanwhile, in early 2025, distribution will start in North America and Europe.
