This thumbnail checks all the YT boxes. Hopefully this video crushes. I absolutely love these videos. Bravo 👏 I think Lemond was making a spectacular point but that it shouldn’t be taken literally. Hard work is often rewarded with more hard work. Nothing wrong with that. 👌

100% agree - and the sentiment is the same - I just think that when we see a pro going all in, it’s not the same as us..! And thanks - all the thumbnails get the Cloud Vision treatment these days - until it actually spots a bike in the objects, the title gets smaller and smaller and more and more transparent :-)

Absolutely agree about the strength work. I'm doing a heavy lifting session each week and it is absolutely helping my hill climbing ability. Definitely some 'non functional mass' still to loose though. Great to have your videos back 😊

I’m playing around with weights at the moment - like the actual weight Vs reps etc - I’m not keen on big muscles but any to be strong and lean more than big! What’s your reps/sets at the mo Jenny? I still have at least 15kg of non-functional mass I’d like to shift too but I’ve already shifted 15kg of it since Xmas… it’ll go eventually…!!

@1stElementEndurance I do 2 strength sessions a week - 1 is lighter weights and body weight (bit of a pilates / yoga / strength mix) that are done more on time, so 2-3x 30-60secs. Then the 2nd session is a heavily lifting session with deadlift/squat/clean press type exercises 5x 3-8reps usually as supersets

Pain is a polite suggestion from a well-meaning source that's ultimately only that-a suggestion. The caveat being that a person has a good relationship with pain as a signal and understands the difference between exertional pain and injurious pain. If they don't, they will always be at pain's mercy.

You are absolutely spot on all these points. I fully believe in the concept of speed being a byproduct of efficiency that’s the way to think if you put in the work and really focus on technique, and the ergonomic benefits of bikefit and proper training stimuli we get faster. This video is a banger thanks buddy❤

Great video James. I kind of agree with Lemond, training never gets easier, its always hard, but the mental thing from knowing I have fitness from training makes a massive difference for me in terms of preparedness to suffer

It does - and when you’re not fit, the opposite happens! There are just so many factors that go into, especially for us amateurs!

@@1stElement it was meant as one. I'm quite envious of your fitness levels. Due to circumstances beyond my control I've not been able to train to a decent consistency or level. Well done mate, keep it up

Thank you - and I’m sorry to hear that - I know, very, very well, what that feels like. Are you making any progress?

@@1stElement I lost my job a few months back and have just started a new one. The worry and stress poleaxed me and my focus was elsewhere. But coming out of the other side now, hopefully.
