Hey y'all, welcome to our Off Grid channel. We are Justin and Lilly (plus 4), and we are building a house together, as a family, completely off the grid.
After months of work, we finally completed our Pier and Beam foundation, so now it's time for us to move on to the floor framing.
The floor will be 28' x 54', which makes the house just over 1500 square feet.
The whole family was sick with the flu over the Christmas and New Year Holidays, so it has taken us a few weeks of recovering to finally get started on the floor framing.
We fired up our trusty tractor again to help us transport the floor joists closer to the house, but first we made a pit stop to pump up a flat tire using Justin's heavy-duty off-road tire inflation pump.
The joists are 2"x12"x16' long. They are very heavy and unwieldy to move.
Once we got the joists situated, we setup our portable dewalt 12" rolling miter saw station for cutting joists and blocking to size. Lilly took the first shift on the saw while Justin located and set the first two joists in place.
Justin had lots of trouble with the Dewalt 20V Max 30 degree framing nailer. It kept misfiring and getting stuck for no apparent reason, but he refuses to use other brands and thinks he can finesse it to work better.
Lil does an awesome job manning the Miter Saw and soon has a huge stack of blocking prepared for installation.
