Now that we've figured out how to lift these enormous, 400lb floor beams, it's time to place them on the anchor bolts to build the pier and beam foundation of our off grid house.
But, nothing ever goes according to plan.
Our Kubota L47 tractor has been indispensable on our off grid homestead and we break it out again to lift these huge floor beams. It takes precision work to get them up on the anchor bolts to mark where we need to drill. Unfortunately, the drill bit isn't quite able to handle the 10 inch beams, and gets stuck over and over. Justin breaks out a crescent wrench to loosen the drill bit until we can free the drill.
Next comes sawing off the ends of the beams, and while the hand saw is precise, it takes way too long and it's time to break out the Husqvarna 440 chainsaw.
Amidst chickens and children we can see the shape of our off grid house coming to fruition, and while it is slow work, it is very satisfying.
Just another day on the Wild Berry Woods Off Grid Homestead!
