So ,nothing really new in 1/35 . Mostly re-released stuff. Haven't seen them do anything completely original in 1/35 for a long time now. They used to be one of my favorite model kit companies ,but they've been overshadowed by others now. They are usually overpriced as well.

Its a case of "horses for courses" and what i mean by that is im a jet modeller in 1/72 and used to love the amazind diversity with they Airfix range but for the last few years they have concentrated about 75/80 % of their aircraft range on ww2 stuff with only scant offerings of jets compared to what they used to produce (and dont get me started on the extreme lack of helicopters on their range) ....they (Airfix) seem to have gotten themselves into a ww2 rut that they are either unwilling or unable to get out of.

Interestingly, the company used to be called "Italaerei", where it is pronounced "it-tal-ehr-y". They've since rebranded to "Italeri" and can also be pronounced "I-tal-ery", as evidenced by how the company has said it with both pronunciations in promotional materials.

One thing to note about the Tiger is the lack - near total absence - of interest in the Australian Army's Tiger ARH. The most Tigers I have ever seen in a hobby shop were Goldeneye Tigers (in addition to Moonraker shuttles), and I'm Australian. On the other hand, Apaches abound and thrive in Australian hobby shops. This means that the Australian Government should take the job of helicopter procurement away from the Department of Defence, and turn it over to the scale modelling community.

The G7107 single axle US Army trucks were & are the most exciting releases in all versions put out by ICM & Miniart. The US vehicles in the Italeri 2024 releases are awesome. I embrace old kits just as new kits. My nostalgia is very dear to me & messing with the older kits still feeds that part of me. My 1/48 scale Stuka "Tank Buster" from Monogram is one of my favorite models.

WRT clarity I completely agree. All it would require is a single line /on the outside of the box/ (inside is pointless - it's too late once you've bought a kit to then find out it's 50 years old) stating the tooling date. Put it in the same block of text as the legalese like copyrights and everyone knows where to look. Lack of clarity harms the company's reputation and long term will harm their profits as sales dip with a lack of consumer confidence in them.

dammit....some 1/35 kits I would love to do, but all with 'rubber tracks'. Massive no from me until someone makes link and length add ons. Rubber band tracks never look right, never have the upper length 'sag' and I have never made a tank with them that I was happy with.

The thought occurs that a fairly big chunk of the cost of creating any new product is in R & D. Doesn't make business sense then to do as Italeri have here and produce models of the same aircraft (the F35C) in different scales. Do the research for the largest scale and create the computer models. For smaller scales the research has already been done, so all that is required is to adapt the existing computer models to the smaller scale. In fact I think there is an argument for designing /every/ kit to the largest likely size, say 1:48, later develop a 1:72 kit, and you get two kits for one research phase and developing the computer models for the 1:72 will be much cheaper. Perhaps pass the cost savings to the consumer and everyone's a winner!

Thanks for the vid. I have a fondness for Italeri as a company that exported to Australia in the early 70's and were affordable (in small scales) along with Matchbox/Airfix. I remember seeing the Zundapp 750 in the hobby shop in '75 (Wow! But out of my price range). I have it now and it is still a great kit. And I remember having the Gotha 242. They do/did some interesting and different subjects. I recently built the AB40 and the the Horch (Tamiya's pop) both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have the Saharianas (one with resin) and the AB series and the little L6/40 (Tamiya's pop again!). I've ordered the 1/32 Macchi 202 (still waiting here🙂). I await the new Italian armour but would prefer L & L over rubber band tracks. And their modern decals are great. I agree that they (like others) should be more upfront with reissues of older moulds. However, there is a fine balance of being able to create new kits and keep profitability (and jobs) in a competitive industry. Anyway , I like Italeri, they're fun kits, (each to their own though). Thanks for the fair appraisal. Matt 🦘🦘🦘

Finally the beautiful sahariana comeback! But yeah especially being italian the marketing choices behind the Italeri's catalog is quite difficult to understand. They got to the point of re-releasing a useless Caproni vintage special anniversary edition, while at the same time they never fail to forget the vast number of unique subjects that should be always available to the public. Sometimes I like the challenge of on old Esci 1:72 armor kit, but I'm not going to spend around 20 euros for something that it's clearly not worth the price. Sometimes Italeri gets it right like they did with the "Maiale" or the 6 RAD, but overall they keep on re-printing stuff that has already found a new customer base or new brands to perfect and evolve that specific demand, like Miniart or Takom with the Blitz series. I mean it took them years to finally realize they had to bring back some WW2 Italy armor kits. Takom or Miniart.

I have a Spitfire MkIX that I altered to depict one from RAF Selsey. I was impressed by that several years ago however the paint diagram from my 1/35 Crusader didn't show two views which meant that I painted the least interesting scheme. It turned out well but I was not happy with the lack of information. As for the old stuff? Good for Airfix for marketing their old stuff as "Classics". You know what to expect and that's part of the nostalgia/fun. Any other way of advertising old kits is just a bit of a sham.

I personally like Italeri kits quite a bit. They do models few if any one else manufactures. They can be a bit wonky at times but never anything this medium-skill modeler can't handle. Scalemates is your friend if reissues of old kits is a concern. Since it appears it will have decals for VMFA-314, the Black Knights, I will get one of the F-35C's. I'm building at least one aircraft from each attack carrier, Cuban Missile crisis to whenever in the future, and need one from the type's first deployment aboard the Abraham Lincoln. It will be my only representative for that carrier to date. I also anticipate these additions to the stash: the LVT-4, LCM-3, and DUKW in 1/35. Maybe the M8 Greyhound as well, for a planned 80th anniversary Battle of the Bulge diorama. In aircraft, looks like I'd better grab one of the X-47 UCAV since it's going away.

Sounds like how much lipstick can you apply to a pig.? I used to like Italeri, it looks like they are reissuing a lot of antiques. I'm happy with what I have in my stash. I can be very selective with my purchases this year. There are a few kits on the market that I would like to acquire. I did hear from other reviewers that this year the pickings are pretty slim. Despite the fact I have assembled lots of 1/24 scale trucks from Italeri and have enjoyed doing so, I have found issues with some of models. I recently branched out into the accessories for these kits and discovered the HIAB EFFER crane's dimensions are completely out of proportion. When stowed, the boom overhangs/extends far outside of the cab as do the stabilisers. IRL these inaccuracies would pose some danger to other road users. Shame really because it's a nice addition. Just a waste of money if you're attempting to replicate an authentic piece of equipment.
