I rarely shop at walmart these days. It's really crazy to see a half empty parking lot when I live near touristy sites. I've noticed smaller shelf items as well. Also, they are reducing the price of Ball canning jars and replacing them with Mainstay at a few dollars less. I haven't bought any but the reviews are mixed. walmart used to be cheaper with their contracts with suppliers but not so much lately. I grow a lot of our own food, vegetables, but I always look for sales and buy there.

You are right about color coating, but it has nothing to do with social groups or politics or anything else. Red and blue are simply two of the colors that are very attractive to the eye and coordinate different ideas with the brain, such as wanting them more or more impulsive behavior. So many companies choose blue or red as two of the strongest colors that people will impulsively go to the store and buy first.

Walmart here in So Calif. don't seem to be replacing items when they sell the last one. Many empty shelves, or they spread ut what they do have in stock. It's really obvious as to what items aren't selling. I'm not talking about food. The food sections are very different. Talk about Target....I've been going to Target first. Some prices are lower than Walmart. Downside is they don't have the variety Walmart has, but Target also has only 1/5 of their store for food, water, milk, fresh foods. It's a pleasure to shop at Target, even if a few items are higher priced, because the balance of items are cheaper. Target has less traffic. Target cashiers are super friendly. Plus they bag your items. Some cashiers at Walmart STILL refuse to bag your items if you bring your own bags. Thanks Danno for all you do. You're the only shopper giving feedback! 💯👋👍🥇

Good evening Danno, Frank and Jess 🙋♀️ One other reason name brand products sometimes disappear from one location yet is available in other locations might be a manufacturer's refusal to pay the "Slotting Fee" a location is asking for or an increase in slotting fees. Slotting fees definitely add to the prices we pay and availability. If a product isn't selling well, it's manufacturer needs to make a choice, of whether to pay a higher slot fee for better shelf location/space, or pull the product altogether.

Shelf space is a premium for companies who manufacture products. Stores will ask/demand different things from manufacturers for them to sell those items. As far as the prices go, remember that bump to $15/hr everyone wanted? That’s part of the product cost. When you figure everyone from the cashier ringing up your purchase to the janitorial staff at the manufacturer making those items getting a raise, that cost had to be made up somewhere. About this time of year look for items to increase in price, or decrease in size. Yearly raises are coming out about now. And from what I’ve seen you could expect anywhere from about a 3-5% increase on most items. Items that are leaving stores are probably those that don’t sell well or very fast. Places like Walmart and Kroger need to move items to make money. Why carry 5 different flavors of something when only one or two are good sellers and move fast, and the other three take a bit longer to sell. That’s inventory that the stores have to sit on and money that’s tied up. Just wait till the corporate tax goes up, you’ll see another increase then.

I worked for Walmart getting a new store set up. Corporate wanted every square inch full at grand opening. They sent more product than the building could hold. If there was space for 6 cans, Mgr told me to open a case to fill it, but open cases couldn’t go into stock room. So 18 cans got shoved somewhere they didn’t belong on the sales floor. There was no flex space in grocery. Once the store opened, crowds 24 hours wiping out shelves. Managers yelling to fill shelves, if you couldn’t find the missing item shove something in the empty spot. It was chaos for about the first month. Normal stores would just front the shelves, but Walmart is psycho about “space is money”.

Ya, I really miss Campbell's split pea soup. And Knott's blueberry syrup. Went away and never came back. Walmart and Kroger.

It’s easy and quick to make spilt pea soup. Carrots and onion, water added to spilt peas. Very delicious and cheap meal. Add ham if you have any.

Pie filling has been insane - not hard to make if you haven't done it before. I make it, when I can get a good deal on apples and put it in freezer bags (if you have the room).

@Midwestmomvolunteer365 It's also easy to can. The hardest (and most expensive, since I had to order it and pay shipping) part is finding the Clear Gel, which is the only thing approved for using as a thickener in pie fillings).

homemade apple pie filling is EASY to make. I just gave a basic list of list ingredients to give others something to think about. Apples, peeled and sliced Sugar, granulated or brown Flour or cornstarch, for thickening Butter, for richness and flavor Lemon juice, for acidity and freshness. Tons of recipes in cookbooks or on-line for do it yourself apple pie filling. If this doesn't work for you Dollar Tree has apple pie filling(and other fruit fillings) for $1.25 as of this post.

I live in NJ shore area. Acme prices are crazy. It’s almost an insult to charge that kind of money in a mostly working and middle class town. Btw, Albertson’s owns Acme. Aren’t they trying to buy Kroger?

Question: Do Kroger’s or Walmart use AI to do their ordering? Going to AI would cause changes on the shelves, some of which wouldn’t make sense to us.
