Hi everyone, and welcome to the newest episode of #itsjustfeminism where we're highlighting feminist contributions around the world!
Today's guest is Harman to celebrate her debutant novella - Yellow Barks Spider, which will be published with Radiant Press later this month!
It's a coming-if-age story of Kid learning how to love themselves amid the darkness of their surounding that push them to be something they are not. Here is a quote that struck with me the most: "Sometimes, if you play dead long enough, you might find that you are scared of games forever".
It is one of those books that are perfect to read during an afternoon storm that will bring a clear starry night - which you will enjoy after you finish it because it will put you in a trance until you finish it and then leave you dwelling in it for days to come in the best way possible!
You can order your copy straight from the publisher here: radiantpress.s...
More about Harman in her own words:
"I am a writer, video maker and sound artist currently residing in Vancouver. I was born in Saskatchewan on Treaty Six territory, and I live and work on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. As a trans woman and feminist, I believe in freedom of expression and self-determination, climate justice, and freedom from oppression, and as an artist I seek to explore what it means to be human while existing in conflict: both with the outside world, and with our inner selves".
Thank you Harman for this wonderful conversation full of passion for creative expression, and for sharing advice on how we can deal with certain life situations, no matter how grim or allienating it can feel at the moment. I hope that Yellow Barks Spider will find its way to local libraries and youth community centres!
