Thanks for the comment. iTunes will allow you to download songs you own no matter where they are purchased from iTunes as long as they are matched. If you watch the next tutorial in the series I show you how to update your library with iTunes matched songs. Hope that helps:).

Thanks so much for the comment. As far as your questions, no you can't select what to match and what not to. It does your whole library (I guess if you take it out of iTunes it wouldn't match but that wouldn't be optimal). As far as re-downloading. You don't have to do that for each file you can just leave the ones you don't want to change alone and should be good. Hope that helps:).

You would need to create a new library, turn on iTunes Match for that library, turn off the preference that says copy songs to my library,go to file>> add to library and add the playlist(s) you want and then choose store>>update iTunes match and you will have those songs in your new library that will be available on your devices. Not the easiest way to do it but it is possible.

Great question! I use apple lossless for all the CD's I own on my main computer which I filmed this screencast on. That way I never have to encode them again incase I want to change bitrate in the future. I also use this computer for my main stereo to play music. On my laptop and mobile devices I use apple's 256kbps through iTunes Match.

Great question! Those that have high bit rates are songs I ripped from my own CD Collection and set the quality setting for Apple Lossless. Hope that helps and thanks for watching:).

No. It keeps your metadata the same as you have it on your system. If you want to replace your covers, you could delete them and use the get album artwork option in iTunes itself but there is no option in iTunes Match to do that unfortunately.

One thing you could consider is Google Music. You have to upload your music but they have an app that does it in the background. Once you do that you can listen to your music through their application and website. Also, its free. I may do a screencast on this in the future as another option.

Hi Todd what is the purpose to iTunes Match? Will this free up space on my phone? I do not have a computer just my iPhone 6 Plus.

I have a number of tracks that have nothing in the iCloud field. They are a combination of matched and uploaded iCloud status. Any idea what these are ... i.e. no cloud?

What is the difference between "Matched" and "Purchased" statuses? As I understand it they mean the same as "Matched" looks for it in the iTunes Store while "Purchased" means you purchased from that same store. In both cases iTunes Match is looking on Apple's servers for the encoded file.

Hi Todd, Thanks for the helpful information. However I am wondering if there is a way to not have to match all my music? For example, I have quite a few albums purchased by another Apple ID account and I know if I match them, delete, and redownload they will no longer be listed as "Purchased AAC file" but instead "Matched AAC file" (I prefer Purchased). So I'm wondering is there an option to choose what files are matched and what are not, AND do you have to redownload all matched files?

Hello. I have a Question: I did iTunes Match using a IPod Gen 4. I had 6800 songs on this iPod and 2500 on my PC. Now those 2500 are also part of the 6800. When I did the Match using my IPod Gen 4 iTunes Match switch the 6800 songs and replaced them with the 2500 songs I had on my PC. How do I go about getting my 6800 songs back on my IPod Gen 4?

ralph9563 Thanks for the comment. If you have iTunes Match turned on with your iPod you should be able to see all of your songs in iTunes Match they will just have a cloud icon next to them. From there you would download each of the one's you want or just play them and they will download in the back ground. Hope that helps:).

Hi I am planning on to get a new computer and I am going to do the iTunes Match I can just put all the songs on the cloud on to the new computer right?
@ToddOlthoff

dodgeviperman Yes you can do that by signing into iTunes Match and then downloading your library. I would still make a back up though just in case something goes wrong. Hope that helps!
