Hot take: I like Cole in this episode, he finally reminds a characher with personality, even though he's not a great guy. After ep 7 he wasn't acting like a person, he was a punching bag on the background. Here, he guilt tripped Arryk and manipulated him into assassination mission. He wasn't just being an ashole, he did it on purpose, just like when he provoked Harwin in episode 6. So finally something interesting. Also, some people noticed that Cole, after being named the hand, is now takes control of Alicent, unlike in previous 2 scenes.

I just would prefer Alicent and Criston have a like courtly love dynamic. Like I don’t necessarily mind them being together but at the same time I feel like it cheapens them in a way. I appreciated the apparent chastity of their bond from season one because of how it paralleled their relationship with Rhaenyra. Like as messed up as it was, it was their purest form of devotion to their duty, religion, and each other. They both want to embody the knight and lady of the tales that found their society and the blatant hypocrisy of their intimate relationship irks me. They did much much better. I love how Daemon’s true nature was revealed. We haven’t seen how blood thirsty Rhaenyra can get, but finally the writers are showing that Daemon is truly an evil person and now fans can stop defending him. Finally Rhaenyra realizes that marrying Daemon was a mistake. He loves his family but he also loves power and thrives in chaos. He commits merciless acts with no remorse whatsoever. He’s trying to grasp power from her. And yes Rhaenyra you were named heir because Daemon was too dangerous and unpredictable. Marrying him weakened you stance and increased the Green desire to rebel because they don’t fear you, they fear Daemon acting in your name. They know and this proves it that while you don’t have the stomach for kinslaying, he certainly does. I mean during the council after the funeral he was holding back his smirks when Rhaenyra was talking about Jaehaery’s death. And even though he was saying it was an accident, I felt from the holding back smirks and the body language and his nature it was no accident. Even if he didnt directly say if you can’t find Aemond kill Jaehaerys or just kill one member of the royal family, he definitely is not sorry in the slightest that a child no older than his son Aegon is dead. Yes Otto was using the death for political gain but it is a truly brilliant move. We are finally seeing the small folk’s support of Helaena and her kids that really set her apart from everyone. Her suicide broke their hearts. They’re finally humanizing Aegon which is great! Wish they did so earlier but okay I’ll take it. Finally we see Daeron!!! My only big gripe is Criston. Exactly. I'm not sure if I'll do a video about it or not, but literally on like day two of the war Daemon demonstrated exactly why the Greens were always going to go to war with Rhaenyra, because even if they could trust her with their lives (which is an iffy prospect in its own right), her supporters and people around her would have no qualms about eliminating any competitors for the throne.
@via-anghelmagahum2586
3 ай бұрын
@@HillsAliveYT I mean, show Rhaenyra versus book Rhaenyra seems less inclined to kinslaying. However despite being the proclaimed heir, in Westeros society there is a male before female precedence that her own father even set when he got the throne. Machiavelli has stated that if you want your claim unchallenged all potential challengers should be gone. Westeros is based on Medieval history specifically England. Henry VII killed all York challengers to the throne. Richard III was rumored to have killed his nephews to keep his claim unchallenged as declaring them bastards wasn’t enough. Rhaenyra was the alternate succession and proclaimed heir but Green Aegon was the heir by law and tradition which to many of Westeros would make more sense. Despite Viserys upholding her claim, he was still breaking tradition without setting any laws. Kings can’t always just do whatever they want in a feudal society. And she also intended to crown a bastard after her which unless she legitimized him would also turn others towards the Greens. She may resist for long time on killing her brothers to eliminate challenges, but Her council ESPECIALLY DAEMON would influence and convince her to do so or do so without her permission.

She also tried to tell otto who wouldn't listen. i hate the back and forth with rhaenyra. i hate that in one scene, she's a grieving mom whose giving danny season 8 vibes, but its like, the writers are self aware that those vibes will turn her against people, so they pull it back, and she's sensible and worried about the blood she will spill, even though she literally said "i want aemond" but in the next scene she's like "i don't want war." its confusing, you cant be the joker in one scene then alfred the butler in the next scene. rhae's grief was supposed to be the driving force of the war, thats the vibe we were left with in finale season one, everyone was like, "they gonna get it, they woke the dragon!" but then rhae is instead "having buried a child myself, why would i want to bury other people?". they never want her to go full crazy. they are scared of the audience. scared to make her have blood on her hands. we keep going back and forth with her, like a climax, then a de-acceleration, then another climax, then de-acceleration. its too self aware. the writers, they care too much about the audience, about team black being protagonists, and not the character or circumstance. for example, rhae and the white worm scenes, she has all right to be sassy and distrustful of her husbands past mistress, but because the writers are self aware of "girls fighting over a guy" what instead happens is, rhae and the white worm start sharing sympathies and shitting on daemon as if they are the best of girlfriends, very sister wives vibes. and its so girl's girl, yes, rhae sent her away not because she was jealous, or threatened or suspecious, but because, "i honor my husband's promise....even though i don't respect or trust my husband? go away, you, not because i want daemon to focus on me and my war, but because i have deep respect for you. get on the ship, never come back, coz we're friends." can they just make a girl evil? they have no problem making aegon a terrible human being, but rhae? her terribleness has to be tempered by thoughtfulness?

His father put the idea of a prophecy inside her head and now Rhaenyra believes if she doesn't engage in the war, she still will be the queen. Honestly very poor choice from the writers.

I have theory of why we haven’t seen Daerion what if he took more after his mother and was born with dark hair instead of the Targaryen white? He still is of royal blood but what if he’s the one in a million Targaryen’s that don’t look like a Targaryen

Unelss they butcher his lore, he's without a doubt Visery's son as he ride a dragon. But him being a rare case of dark haired true targ would actually bea great idea, as it happened sometimes in history and to weaken a little the Green's accusal of the Strongs over their hair color. It would also help posing him as a Hightower in everything aside the name and well, Tessarion.

how come rhaenyra STILL doesn't have a Hand of the Queen to act in her place, lead her council and more importantly, reign daemon in while she's grieving???? she had a coronation and queensguards and a war council but no Hand?? and the choice is pretty clear, too. either corlys, who already had experience in war AND in commanding/collaborating/using daemon in war, or rhaenys, who has everyone's respect (even daemon would think twice before upstaging her), would've been an excellent choice. and after this whole debacle with jaehaerys she just let daemon go, like "oh he must follow his own path now". girl, does the rest of the realm knows this or is daemon gonna continue to wreck havoc IN YOUR NAME??? is this her ruling???

I understand what youre saying abour Rhaenyra taking so long to realize that Daemon was responsible for little Jaehaerys' death (Rhaenys clocked it immediately though), but I definitely get it... Idk about anyome else, but I've been on similarly toxic and abusive relationships (both emotionally and physically), and even if you do FULLY realize what the other person did, and completely recognize it, sometimes your mind and emotions just play tricks on you, and you either don't to acknowledge it or try to somehow convince yourself that the person you love just wouldnt do such dispicable things (obviously my partners have never ordered the desth of a child, bit the point still stands). It's not healthy, but i completely understand why she'd try to subconsciously convince herself that Daemon wouldn't (even though she knows in her heart that he's more than capable of doing so and probably did). She _doesn't_ trust him and likely knows that he did it, but she doesn't want to believe that because it would shatter her false sense of security, and force her to confront the fact that hes a monster. It's often much easier to just make excuses and try to convince yourself that everything is fine, and that of course he's a "decent person," than to face reality snd acknowledge the reality of the situation....

I don't like Rhaenyra very much, but I like Daemon even less. So my respect for her went up very slightly when she called him pathetic. Hearing that from someone he loves must have been more painful than any battle wound. I found it cathartic.

I only watched this episode now, but I heard that a lot of the female characters get ever worse in terms of "infantilization" after this one ( can anyone confirm, id be sad if I didn't get girlboss alicent and rhaenyra), and I personally found it weird that Rhaenyra, who openly proposed kid Aemond should be tortured, is so disgusted with killing a kid, tho it might just be her realizing how terrible it was after losing her own son,

Oh wow I truly don't believe Criston loves Alicent (and vice versa). I see how in theory its possible, but I think they show writes both of them as too "tramatized" to truly begin to love. I bet Sir Criston still has feelings for Rhaenrya too. He's too upset for too long. His anger is a cover up. I think Alicent is just finally feeling like she can enjoy sex, but I bet after all she's been through, she'll need time to figure out "love." They seem to be trauma-bonded.

I really do not understand why you think Alicent and Cole should not feel guilty. The whole reason Haleana did not have a sworn protector and guards that night was because Cole did not want to risk anyone catching what they were doing. It is entirely their fault she was unprotected. They should feel terrible
