The fact the room was moving and he was singing and dancing while simultaneously tracking the camera, room, and furniture in his head is just insane.

In fact it's actually simpler than that. The camera was attached to the structure of the walls and ceiling and that structure moved around the floor. When you see the sofa and chairs moving towards him it is actually the other way around. The sofa and chairs NEVER move and are always in the same position so he cannot bump into them. It is the walls that move around them.

Almost haven't listened to anything from Jamiroquai but this song is special and has followed me since my childhood :) How they made the video? They pushed the room around in a studio set. So the walls actually move, but since the floor is a uniform color it feels like Jamiroquai, the furniture and other people are the ones moving. Probably why the last shot with blood running on the floor don't see any of that movement since it would break the illusion.

I think I understand how they achieved the "moving furniture" effect of this video. It's not the furnitures that are moving, it's the whole room that is but since the camera is always in the same spot it create the illusion that the chairs and sofas are moving and all. How about the rotating sofa ? Simple, the room is also rotating and the sofa isn't moving, all Jay Kay have to do is move around to avoid bumping into objects or walls. How about the chairs that sometimes move and sometimes don't ? If you pay attention, the ones that are not moving are often against a wall, I think they simple keep them stuck to the wall until it's their time to move. EDIT: I looked up how they did it and I was right, the whole sets were moving and the furnitures that weren't were bolted to the walls of the set. This effect is obviously greatly helped by the perfectly smooth and monochromatic floor and the late 90's camera video quality. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rrCtv2ufomdpZY4

The raven in this song means that death is near. Whenever you see a raven bird it means trouble is coming. So, the bird represents that our future looks bad if you let AI technology take over the world. This is the first song ever to call that way before it ever happened. This song is 27 years old from 1996. But, it is way ahead of its time.

There is a "Making Of" video and the way they done it was simple but tedious. The floor is not moving the furniture when stationary were anchored and they just move the walls around J. When the furniture had to appear to move, then the bolts came off. The camera was fixed to the frame of the 4th wall. Much easier than building a moving floor as the furniture would still need to be bolted to the wall. I'm not doing it justice so see if the video is online.

Saw them in Philly in mid/ late 90's. Jay got pissed off at his own band and the show ended a little early. At the time they were considered more pop in the US. Maybe late grunge stage being the context was hard, and I wonder how much the Spice Girls, breaking at the same time, lumped Jamiroquai in with the US audience. They put on a great show and this video is so clever and so good.

This is so 90's as someone who was a teenager then ( some of it makes me cringe, some of it I wish we'd kept). The blue and white overall colour (minimalism design was a thing, big thing HUGE thing - and those colours became a big part of it ). The fact that the video was shot with like 3 couches , JQ himself, and a big convyer belt floor that could move in multiple directions and some concrete blocks. It's that 'less is more' mentality of the 90s. ( after the 'greed is good' and 'neon is the new everything' 80's.)

I'm definitely late to this one. The singer's mom was also a cabaret singer. He is not native American/Iroquoian and has taken some grief for wearing the First Nation headwear at times. For earlier stuff, I would check out "Too Young to Die" which was one of their first singles. The album that "Virtual Insanity" is on has two other strong singles "Cosmic Girl" about his car, and "Alright." I'm a fan of "The Kids" from those earlier albums. For later stuff, I would check out the video for "Feels Just Like It Should" which is pretty spectacular and has 3 different Jay Kay roles in it. If you want to check out his property, the video for "7 Days in Sunny June" is filmed on his estate. Also, as others have said, check out the "Canned Heat," "Little L" and "Love Foolosophy" videos, all bangers. Thanks for this one, fun channel!
