Just three nights later she surprised Shea Stadium and walked out on stage to sing with Big Brother and blew 25,000 people's minds!! I was there and it changed my definition of what a blues singer looked and sounded like forever. with no offence to Miss Stone, or Beyonce or any of the current crop of marketing dolls - you don't even come close to what Janis Joplin did when she grabbed a microphone. Grown men weep when they hear her sing the blues, now and then. RIP Janis - the world misses you.

Perhaps my favorite song by Janis. She give everything she had when she sang, nothing held back, whether the performance was in front of a small studio audience or concert of thousands. What you saw and heard, was the real thing. Unlike now when most performers are depend on auto-tune, lip syncing and computer enhancement. Truly "live" shows are rare. Glad I lived, laughed and loved, when the music was real, the concerts were incredible and the life was golden.

By far her best band. Great piano and organ players. John Till, a great guitarist. This was HER band, all picked by her and totally in tune with each other and her. They really cooked. Janis was really coming into her own as an artist and song writer. She could easily be singing and performing today had she not succumbed to heroin. The fact that she died alone when making her best recording to date was, and is, heartbreaking.

Full Tilt? They were from different places in Canada, like The Band. John Till was from Stratford (crossed paths with Richard Manuel a few times - same hometown), Richard Bell was born in Toronto. After he died, friend of mine went to a big auction at a place in the country where he'd been living. They didn't know it was the late Richard's home, but they said there were tons of musical instruments being auctioned off. Richard was a great musician. Sad that he's gone now.

Thank you. Read also later about someone in the band being from Woodstock, Ont., as well as Stratford as you said. I guess there was a rumour at the time about them being based in Hamilton. I became interested after watching this fascinating documentary last night which I think was simply called 'Janis' made in 2015, I think. I knew Janis was a legendary rock star, but I had no idea she was so intelligent and interesting too- always thought she was just a stoner or whatever!

We watched that documentary..."Little Girl Blue", I think it was called. Really sad, how Janis was treated, and yah, she was very smart in school. Her sister is a psychologist, and wrote a lovely book on Janis, called "Love, Janis". It has a lot of Janis's letters home to her family in Texas. I almost cried when her high school yearbook said such cruel things about her. She was searching for happiness her whole life....

I find it hilarious that on most of these vids of Janis that people feel the need to sob about how sad Janis was ... from all first hand recollections from friends/band members/family all said she was a very funny, outspoken, intelligent lady who found joy out of what she did and never wanted it to end. She was lonely in the respect of not having a consistant man to love her and not having her foundation in her life on a regular basis. She wasn't a sad-sap like most of today would like to think.
