Ms. Marvel! I really enjoyed that first volume. I quite like graphic novels and comics, but I haven't tried reading anything else in the Marvel/DC Comics universe. I started reading comics with Sandman by Neil Gaiman and am still trying to find something that's just as epic and awesome. That's sort of my gold standard for comics!

Kalanadi I will have to bump Sandman up higher on my to-read list! I've heard great things about it from others as well. :)

I haven't read Heir of Fire, but I definitely think that Crown of Midnight is so much better than the first book. I hope you enjoy them! Great haul! So many good books. :)

Natalie's Novel Obsession Yay! I'm excited. That is good to hear. I really liked the first one, but it wasn't the OMG READ THIS RIGHT NOW that everyone seems to be hyping it as lately. But I did like it, so I'm looking forward to the 2nd one (and hopefully I like it even more than the first). I'm actually trying to stall on reading them until September so that I can marathon them with the new book that is coming out. We'll see. Maybe I'll end up reading them before then. :)

With regard to comics, I haven't read a terrible lot during my younger years. What I did read is for example 'Watchmen' (1-volume, 413p, 1986) and 'V For Vendetta' (1-volume, 288p, 1988 - 1989) by Alan Moore. I found them to be terrific and intriguing, and they're acclaimed works as well. Aside from that, I can also recommend a few Japanese comics (manga). I am currently reading 'Akira' (6-volumes, 2216p, 1982 - 1990) by Katsuhiro Otomo and 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' (2-volumes, 1104p, 1982 - 1994) by Hayao Miyazaki*, and have completed 'Ghost in the Shell' (1-volume, 368p, 1989) by Masamune Shirow. All three are very successful works and have been adapted into (perhaps even more successful) Japanese anime films with international praise. Just bear in mind that Japanese comics are generally in black-white format, with a few introductory pages of a volume or chapter in colour, though I can guarantee you that this is a charming difference from 'western' comics and that it still looks very fascinating. Anyhow, these are all just personal preferences, but I can most certainly recommend them. (* : The author/director Hayao Miyazaki is coincidentally the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, the renowned Japanese animation studio - often seen as the 'Japanese Disney', though personally I find Ghibli films more fascinating; 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind', adapted from the first half of the 1st volume, is considered the studio's first animated film.)

All of the books look really interesting. Have you ever read Esperanza Rising? If not I recommend it, it's a great book.

Nicole Oliver I have read it, actually! I think I read it when I was in middle school and I loved it! I used to own it but I can't seem to find it anymore. I'd like to reread it sometime in the next few years though, if I get a chance. :)

No comic books = deprived childhood. No classic love triangle Archie Betty Veronica? You really should have been a more adventurous reader. :-D You are more medic than I. See pathological condition before your eyes. Recommendation: See Electra, composer Richard Strauss. Subtitles if you want 'em.

TimeAndChance Alas, I was comic book deprived. :( That is a great idea! I'd love to see it once I read the play. Is there a good video recording anywhere, or do I have to see it in person?

According to Penguin Guide to classical music recordings, Abbado's version on DVD is great. Classical Music Universe's channel on utube offers a version with English subtitles. Of the several other versions offered here on utube I'm not sure which is the top choice. Most versions are not superlong, often ranging from about 1hr45min. -1 hr 55 min. I'd fish around to see if the Abbado version was easily available, & otherwise I'd see a few min. of a handful of versions on utube & go with 1 of 'em.
