I am not a racist and don't mean to make it sound racist/discriminative, but in Japan, though foreigners speaking Japanese are kind of appreciated and surprised at, those "foreigners" often don't include Asians, especially Chinese and Koreans.
At first, of course Japanese people may be surprised to hear Chinese/Korean speak Japanese well, but it's not so "interesting/weird/awkward/mismatch" (meaning they often look alike Japanese, thus looking wise, it is just the same as a Japanese speaking Japanese).
However, if someone from the West, especially those who look western (with lighter-colored skin not necessarily white but also tan, or Latino-looking incudes, too) speaks Japanese, it looks very "different" to Japanese.
