Mike........what I use often for all the little boogers & pits is an old product called "Feather Fill". It's a filler primer that sands like talcum powder and fills beautifully. If the pit or spot weld is deep enough I'll use bondo or spot putty but once I've got it good or close enough I'll do a once over with the filler primer and a final sand. That stuff leaves a gorgeous surface as a paint base.....especially on pitted metal.
@UCanDoIt2Mike
3 жыл бұрын
I've heard of Feather Fill and seen some of the channels I follow use it. I will look into it. I had a friend over and was showing him the project. As I was explaining him some of the next steps, I realized how much of this Jeep I plan to cover in Bedliner (Inside, Bottom, both sides on the Firewall). That really doesn't leave much surface area that will be Final Painted. But I am using this project as a learning step for a later restoration of a 68 Camaro. Trying to hone my skills. Appreciate the information!

I hope you can get back to it soon. Really enjoyed the vids and especially the transfer case rebuild. I was never mechanical but have purchased a 5.3LS from junkyard to rebuild in 2021. Currently rebuilding my wife’s power steering gear box. You inspired me to do more myself.

I’ve got a 1991 Jeep YJ that I’m going to take down to the frame and rebuild with a 5.3 LS motor. Your wiring harness videos are absolutely amazing. It’s give me the confidence to do it myself. Mike, awesome restoration!! I’m starting my 84 cj7 and seeing you do sheet metal work let’s me know I can do this at home in my garage. Also, mine is a father / son project too. Do know if I’ll put it on KZitem but never know. Yours and JD’s is my go to. Thanks again and hope for some new videos. Hope health is good

Thank you Chris! Love to hear that you are involving your son as well. It’s great father /son time and something he will never forget. JD did a great job. I am new to sheet metal work. If you study it and take your time, it is not hard to pickup with patience. I really enjoy it. Currently I am watching the weather to find out when this pollen and rain will subside so that I can start sanding and get the interior body in epoxy primer. I really need to get back on Rowdy. Let me know if you post vids. I’ll check men out. Cheers.... Mike!

I have watched every episode you put out and they are so educational and inspiring. I hope you're doing okay and I get to see the completion of the project when you get around to it. Glad to see ya back at it! These are definitely the strenuous and time-consuming tasks... I went through the same ordeal when my father and I rebuilt and painted my '81 in our single car garage back in 2002. Nearly 20 years and untold number of mechanical changes later, the paint is still on it and ain't too shabby either! Keep on keeping on and I'll try to make it by your place when things get back to semi-normal around here! Gotta show off my LQ4 swap handiwork!

Great to see a video Mike. I love your videos. On the epoxy, my epoxy says to paint within 24 hours of stripping/blasting. I have been able to get a away with more time here in CA due to low humidity.
@UCanDoIt2Mike
4 жыл бұрын
I think the 24 hour time frame is a good rule of thumb. For these fenders, I was trying to plan my sanding days based on good weather 2-3 days out so that they did not sit long before spraying. Dang of the surface rust didn't come quick. Glad to have them coated!!

Excellent as always! You can try "icing" on the spot welds instead of normal filler since it's a lot easier to apply thinly. Also, don't be afraid of sanding the epoxy with water, it seems to load-up a lot more than normal 2k primer. Keep on keeping on !!!

Hey Mike, I hope all is well with you and your family. As usual, I enjoyed this video. I have a question for you. I’m in the market for a multi process welder, TIG, MIG & stick. I noticed that you use a lot of Eastwood products, and was wondering if your welder is an Eastwood product. I’ve been considering their MP200i welder, so I thought I’d get your opinion. Thank you my friend, and keep the videos coming.
@UCanDoIt2Mike

Sorry for the late response. YT hid this from me. I do like my Eastwood 135 Mig welder. It is perfect for the type of welding that I have encountered on the Jeep so far. For it's size and function, Eastwood offered it at a great price. If I was in the market for a multi process welder, I would certainly look to what Eastwood offered and would compare that to other brands. I am a sucker for a low priced tool, but will always make sure I am buying quality. Cheers to you Mike..... Mike!

A product called Ospho rust converter takes and and converts it back to black carbon, you don’t have to sand or clean it. You can prime right over it. I use this on most bare steel as a rust protection before I do any body work. Just an FYI. But I am following you and the project. Be well.
