before 2011 the Quadra drive 2 system on the grand Cherokee used elsd's (electronic limited slip differentials) on both the front and rear axle which would fully lock and stay locked up to 1 min after wheel slip was detected.... a good example can be seen in this video (I'll post the link next) when the 2005 grand is in the sand. After 2010 jeep switched to a btc (brake traction control) system on the front axle which works by applying brakes to the spinning wheel to force the power over to the opposite wheel. Jeep claims that with improved sensors and faster software the system works just as well. We have done extensive testing with both systems and the while the btc system is good its not as good as the elsd system. The problem is that the system will apply the brakes right in the middle of a hill climb often at a crucial point when the loss of the forward momentum even for a second shitters the climb. So you do end up laying into the throttle more to try and compensate or make it respond quicker. The old system essentially was like having lockers front and rear (like a rubicon) and as any experienced off roader will attest having locking diffs is gold.

This is partially incorrect. Quadradrive II to this day has an eLSD, a completely separate component from the BLD.

Love the video dude. i own a qt2 jeep myself and i have argued this topic so many times to my friends that its just as capable as qd2. this video demonstrates it the best way possible. the only difference i can notice is s little more slippage with qt2, but thats not such a big deal. both are great 4x4 systems. which is why they are both trail rated systems.

I'd like to point out that most of these jeeps had street tires, so any all terrain tires or anything will make a hill climb such as this a lot easier.

I love how easy the ZJ made it look even with it's what appears to be open difs due to the wheel slippage at one point.
@wildbill23c

Most likely the ZJ had open diffs, I'm not sure if you could get the limited slip rear diff if you had quadra-trac. I know with Selec-Trac and Command-Trac you could get the rear limited slip, my 98 ZJ with selec-trac has the rear limited slip, works great, hardly ever use the 4WD in it, and when I do its full time mode.

Is there anything quadra drive can do that BLD can't do? They look like they work about the same.

I would like qd2 but dont want overland with troublsum airlift so settled for qt2
@fastestmanalive4

Ok guys I will explain the difference. With QT ll there is no limited slip which means it will allow for one wheel to slip and at the same time send power to other wheels with more grip. With QD ll it has limited slip not allowing much slip from any wheel when it senses slip it takes power from the wheel with less traction and finds the wheel or wheels with the most traction. That is the only difference both are amazing 4x4 systems just uses different methods to get the same out come which the video give you an awesome comparison. Most people will say the QD ll has a slight edge over the QT ll but it's really people that have only had QD ll if you have had both you know that they are comparable

you r wrong. in qt the system use brakes to avoid wheelspin, does not have to do with differential.
@taylorwelsh149

Both are very comparable. infact QT2 mimic LSD diffs by providing 100 percent of the torque to the tire thats got ground and weight..same as LSD, but, it uses the BTCS to do this. The 8.25 QT2 axels tho can be outfitted w a Aussie lovker. I broke mine in Mowb wheeling and hopping. 4 yesrs later replaced the original all good at Moab..I have a Bilstein 5100 front and back shocks at 1.25inches and my OME HD coils aet me all around at 3.75.

I will say this about QT ll most people think you need more throttle to get the system to work which is far from the truth all it requires is stead throttle pressure that's it
@johnbruches598

You are correct, I have a 2008 hemi QT2 very little throttle and the system figures it out with little wheel spin.

By the looks of the zj I would have called this a modified zj vs non modified. Qd is the better system but it also doesn't help when the other vehicles are dragging the bottom

Taylor Welsh go with OX. WKs do survive 200K miles, the QD2 system needs maintaining like changing relays wiring and actuators. If you get a good WK with QT just put an OX locker.
