After watching this video and 1 other that showed the hinge being replaced on the drivers side door, I was somewhat reluctant to do this on my own due to possible door alignment issues. Also, in the other video the door edge nearest the front fender actually got scratched when the door rubbed on the fender when the hinge was out. An estimate from a body shop that used the Motor Crash Estimating Guide came to $72.80 for the labor to do the job (I was supplying the new door hinge). 1.4 hrs @ $52.00/hr which is a cheap labor rate these days. Taking the job on myself was a breeze and definitely did not take1.4 hrs. Some more hints: (1). Put something between the door and fender edge in case the door contacts the fender when the hinge is out. I used on old throw rug. (2). Using a jack to support the door as shown in the video, once the bolts and nuts are backed off about half way jack the door up a little bit. I used a simple scissors screw jack (3). Once the bolts and nuts are out, jack the door up bait more to create enough room to get the hinge out. Struggling with trying to lift the heavy door is not needed if the jack is used to do the lifting. Once I got the new hinge in and tightened down the door alignment was high and the door would not completely closed. I simply backed of the bolts and nuts just a little bit and used the weight of the door to allow it to lower itself. The job took about 45 minutes including set up and clean up. No more creaking and popping and the door stays open in all 3 positions.

Thanks Bruce, my 2014 Grand Cherokee is making that exact noise. Sounds like (no pun intended) you have to replace the entire hinge, no amount of lube is going to help. Good tip on marking the old hinge!!

Seems pretty involved. Looking for the 10 second fix with spray lube only.

So, you showed how the hinge is put together, but what was it about the one you pulled out that was broken?

Hi Elizabeth, thats a good question as it appears everything rolls as it should. I think its one of 2 things gone wrong. The pins that drop into the spline are ceased and the big lever - the door just forces the the whole operation. Or the spline has been deformed. I think the latter as the door wouldn't hold in some of the open positions as well as it should have. Its amazing the amount of noise generated from the hinge not operating as it should.
