Isn't it strange that Jeep tells us it's a lifetime fluid, but ZF, the transmission manufacturer recommends service every 40-60K miles. 🤔 Thanks FCA!

You'll need to replace the oil cooler as well. The cooler is made of plastic, and sits next to the core of the engine. Warps before 90k miles and you'll lose oil or coolant.

It was fine. Not big shavings, just the typical metal slush on the magnet which you do expect. the fluid was dirtier than the light green for sure. I did not see any significant wear or degradation luckily. Ok I know people are going to disagree with me here. I have 98k on my willys jlu and have not yet changed my fluid yet. I have pulled the drain plug and put my finger in the hole ( lol ). Wiped my finger on a plain white towel and it was still greenish in color. I will let it go to 100k then pull the pan. I will make a video of the fluid condition and see how well the filter is still getting debris out of the fluid. I do already know what I will see, since I had a 2018 JL that I put 310k on and never changed the auto trans fluid. Wish I would have dropped the pan on that one to see the fluid =). The person that purchased it from me still has not changed it and it has been over 2 years.

I recently did the trans fluid amd filter on a 2011 BWM X5 ZF8speed. This looks to be the same or similar variation transmission. Where did you get your instructions from? ZF recommends filling then running through the gears and getting to temp (specific temperature range escapes me now) which I used a scan tool to confirm amd made sure it was filled at that temp. Are you able to confirm if this is different for the transmission in the Jeep JL/JT?

The additional quarts are in the torque converter which can only be emptied or flued changed with an entire transmission flush. According to the dealer there is no need to change the Trans fluid. Got quoted $163 for dealer trans filter gasket kit, does that sound right for what you paid? Seem overly inflated. Even the fluid was quoted $36.28 per quart. Don’t buy retail at dealer. Just for curiosity, asked for trans service at dealer and got quoted $750- $800. Not even a final number, just range from service advisor. Power steering fluid was $47.85. Everything is just getting out of hand. Affordability wise.
