I've always loved the more analytical announcers. Because, people like Matt Striker and Mike Tenay, go into the history of the wrestlers, the moves, and explain everything that it happening physically and why. I find that 1000x more interesting than hearing the usual canned reactions of most announcers, who give a quick "Oh my!" reaction, and then go immediately back into trying to sell on you the next big event or angle that has nothing to do with the match at hand. In fact, it's outright disrespectful to talk about other matches and angles while two or more men and/or women are working their asses off in the ring. They should have everyone's full attention, especially the announcers! In between bouts, is when you should talk about all that other stuff.

@@mikescott8903 I enjoy both but if you don’t understand how AEW’s inception sparked new interest in professional wrestling you are severely underestimate how big the launch of that company was and for all the ebbs and flows, things it does well and things it needs to work on as a new company it brought back people that were absolutely sick of what the WWE was pumping out on the regular for several years at that point as the only big show in the west. Grew up a pro wrestling fan myself but could not TOLERATE the PG era. Stopped watching wrestling there and every time I checked back into WWE programming I was like “this is trash” and left again. Watched Kenny Omega-Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom and it blew my mind how there was top level pro wrestling outside of the WWE let alone the west. Then saw the Omega-Okada series and caught up on the Bullet Club/Elite storyline and I was immediately brought back in and excited about pro wrestling again. AEW is the culmination of all of that and it really is a smorgasbord of all different styles of wrestling which I like. It’s a little rough around the edges and has had some slip ups but the WWE has been around for decades. AEW is a baby company that’s been around for only a few years. Regardless of recent drama, their roster is quite strong and the future is still bright especially if they continue to grow and make adjustments. I honestly like the actual matches more on average on AEW programming. That being said the WWE has taken tremendous strides as of late. The Cody-Reigns feud is phenomenal and as a whole they’ve picked up their quality. Competition is good.

@Last Drop Falls It's basically WCW all over again. Great, top tier matches every week and everybody loving it with great characters and also some trash ones and then they run out of people to put in matches and people get bored and it dies. WWE is smart, whether you like it or not, AEW are not.

A bit premature saying there wouldn’t be another company with financial backing behind it. Kind of obvious after TNA fell another company would take its spot eventually. Certainly didn’t think I’d go my entire life without seeing another wrestling promotion with at least the budget of TNA (which wasn’t that high anyway)

The fact that Cornette isn't an on air personality for either AEW or WWE really bums me out. There are probably only about 3-4 guys currently working that are anywhere near Cornette on the mic. I have a dream gimmick for Cornette and someone. He manages a heel wrestler and their character is that they ate what wrestling has become and they want it to go back to what it used to be. So when they cut promos Cornette will talk first and when the wrestler talks Cornette will hold the mic for him like those old school Mean Gene and Crockett interviews. When the wrestler wrestles he does it old school. Collar and elbow tie ups and that whole sequence. Whenever he does something to out smart his opponent he'll do the old tapping on the side of his head to say he's smart. He'll do old school moves that we don't see anymore. Russian leg sweeps, spinning neckbreaker, abdominal stretch, fireman's carry, atomic drops, scoop slams, double axe handle off the top rope, working the leg on the bottom rope. Ya know, actually being a heel and telling a story. When Cornette cheats to help his wrestler he'll do it old school. Throwing powder in his eyes, passing weapons, putting his guy's foot on the bottom rope to stop a count, distracting the ref, grabbing the good guy's foot, etc. It will just be completely old school and their promos will be running down the locker room and the fans for doing this silky gimmicky wrestling and the fans for daring to like it. It would be gold. I'm telling y'all it would be gold.

From hearing him talk about it I think the main reasons he eats so many triple cheeseburgers are that it's convenient when he's travelling on the road or working constantly, and because it helps him deal with stress. I'd expect working from home for himself has been good for his diet.

He cut out the Sprite. A six pack a day of those really adds up. In his own words, his reasoning for slimming down and being a bit healthier is largely to outlive Vince Russo so he can piss on his grave. No joke.

Wrestling was and deep down still Cornettes life. He is in agony with the way wrestling (if that's what they call it now) has turned out. I always knew that the outcome of matches was pre determined, but it still was believable back then. Very believable. I'd even catch myself getting all worked up , like pissed off at a heel or concerned about a babyface and his future after a heel did loads of physical damage to him. I mean it was FUN. And BELIEVABLE! Cornette was a big part of all of that. Didnt you just want to strangle him and shove that tennis racket up his butt after one of his rants or ring side shenanigans! Hang in there Jimmy. Let's just remember the good old days with a smile.
