R.I.P. Mr. Hines! Thank you for your amazing contribution to the world of Track and Field. Being the FIRST to break the sub 10.00 second marker. Job well done Sir🙏🏿

man if bob hayes would have been able to run in mexico's altitude the time he would have run would have been CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how fast he could have run too but keep in mind Jim Hines had already beaten Hayes' WR from 1964 at the night of speed in Sacramento 1968, also run on a cinder track (actually compacted dirt I believe) at sea level altitude. If Hines had run the same race as in Sacramento on that tartan track and with the altitude assistance of Mexico, he may have run 9.8 flat. The original electronic time of 9.89s was also suspiciously rounded up from 9.89 to 9.95 as it is and people didn't really trust the new tech back then, maybe it was 9.89?

Nice footage + good quality for 42-year-old film! I've looked at lesser quality on KZitem and appreciate your post of Olympic sport history.

@ripperduck The Olympic race (4:05-4:23) was run on a synthetic track that are in use today. In fact it was the first Olympic 100m run on the modern surface. The Olympic Trials @0:47 is a Cinder track

Actually bob hayes was the first to break sub 10 but they thought it was impossible at that time
