I love how Hopper went right along with the sexual favors line without skipping a beat. He also showed real humility, and honesty, when he said luck had a lot to do with success.

Dennis saw that it was a costume when Jiminy's pants fell down at the beginning, plus the make up must look laughably fake in person, and at the end of the interview 4:06 Dennis calls him Marty instead of Jiminy. Everyone that does an interview with Jiminy is in on the joke and knows its Marty Short.

@irish66
3 жыл бұрын
my guess is he is referring to Sammy Glick from "What makes Sammy Run" From Wikipedia. "What Makes Sammy Run? (1941) is a novel by Budd Schulberg inspired by the life of his father, early Hollywood mogul B. P. Schulberg. It is a rags to riches story chronicling the rise and fall of Sammy Glick, a Jewish boy born in New York's Lower East Side who, very early in his life, makes up his mind to escape the ghetto and climb the ladder of success by deception and betrayal. It was later made into a long-running Broadway musical."

I think Short was a little starstruck. And combined with Hopper being stoned off his skull and mind-wandering, as Dufus says, Jiminy couldn't work his magic. This was the most "Martin Short" voice I've ever heard Jiminy doing. I think he felt that if he verbally raced circles around the stoned Hopper and pitched his voice up and down so much, Hopper would lose him completely and it would look demeaning to Hopper. There's a lot of stuff at work here. Jiminy a victim of the very system he tears down every interview.
6 жыл бұрын
I don't think Hopper was really aware of the bit and someone just threw him in there with Short... I think most of the Glick interviews, the subject is fully aware what's going on and they've set a few things up beforehand.
