So probably around 1985 in Allentown, PA i took drum lessons at Grape Street Music and Jimmy was my teacher. I was kid about 15. I couldn't drive there. I remember that. Jimmy looked like he was ready to step onto a Motley Crue Stage, but I guess all rockers looked like that then. I quickly learned a few things from Jimmy. Don't judge a musician by the way they look. If you are going to make anything of yourself it's going to take hard work. If I didn't practice Jimmy was going to call me out and he wasn't going to be happy about it. And he was most likely going to say something to my parents. He was a nice guy, straight shooter and he ran the ball right up the middle. At some point I brought in the prepared solo for my District Band Audition. I had time to work with it. He slapped it on the music stand, hit record on my panisonic tape player and ran through it. I was like - did this MFer just sight read my solo perfectly - yup.

Also, Jimmy is a hell of a nice guy. A monster, a very diverse player. One of my all time faves. I agree with 2309David - that was the best technique line up of Megadeth.

I always find myself coming back to this video... btw, he says "rudiments" 8 times within a 1 minute and 12 second time frame (0:48 - 2:00), or an average of once every 9 seconds within that time frame. Lesson: LEARN YOUR FUCKING RUDIMENTS!

Michael Rose Nothing did played in this video would suggest that. Everything he played was basic rudiments which every drummer needs to practice.
